It would appear that the timing for the 2012 Honda Civic's unveiling has reached the "any day now" point. Car magazine's Middle East outpost caught the latest version of the popular econo-sedan undergoing desert testing, basically devoid of camouflage. If you were waiting with bated breath for an extraordinarily new and different-looking Civic, stop reading. The 2010 car falls solidly into the "extensive refresh" category rather than a full redesign.
As you can see in the spy video, the front and rear fascias are updated; a new grille and bumper appear up front, while out back, all-new taillamps will be the most distinguishing visual element on the 2012 car. The overall profile of the Honda Civic sedan is clearly a carryover, however.
Likewise, the interior has been mildly tweaked with a new steering wheel and some updated trim panels, but it's basically window dressing over the passenger cabin recent Civic owners are familiar with. (The bi-level instrumentation is there, and the radio, HVAC controls, and air vents are all in the same locations as the current car.)

The future doesn't look so bright for Honda if that's what the next gen Civic really is.
They better get it right as their competitors are really stepping up their game. Hyundai and Ford come to mind.

Hyundai mustve stolen some of the best designers in the world from other car companies..
Honda is down to using their warehouse janitors to design their cars.
J____
10-11-2010, 05:17 PM
fuk that looks like shit. Looks like Honda jumped ship and became like Toyota, making all their cars as ugly and bland as possible. When the average person buys a car, the first 2 major things they consider is 1. price (often associated with brand), and 2. looks . If the japs keep this up, Hyundai is going to over take them sooner than expected.
I'd totally buy a new hyundai over a honda or toyota if i was in the market for a new car.
The article says there are no more England-made Type-Rs? Or?
No more Euro Civic Type Rs. It shouldn't matter though. The last CTR they made looked like trash, as did the 1 that came before it (EP3).
The CTR died when the EK9 ended production, IMO.

Hasn't Honda has traditionally does amazingly well with the Civic?
- pretty decent factory looks
- affordable
- modability
I never really understood the current gen civics either. They turned them into family cars.
Maybe that's their strategy? Use a well recognized name that the parents of new families grew up with, tap into that market with a car that now fits their needs.
Still, I don't think the Fit is going to step up and take the Civic's old crown.
Such a shame.
I never really considered a Civic, but if the CRZ was it, I might have just had to take the bite.
Oh well, too bad.

I never really understood the current gen civics either. They turned them into family cars.
The Civic has always been a family car, but it was a lean, efficient, and reliable one with quality craftmanship and materials, a high-tech suspension (double wishbones on 4 corners), and engines that loved to rev. Today's Civic may still be reliable, but it does not embody any of those other qualities.
I've said this many times before, but I'll repeat it again - Honda is no longer the company we grew up with. Many enthusiasts have said that Honda's golden age was between 1986 and 1995 and I would tend to agree with that. Honda's last cars that reflected Honda's raison d'etre were the last generation Prelude and S2000. Hondas today are souless at best and at worst, they reflect our society's general ineptitude and laziness.
I say this as a proud owner of the first VTEC B-series car in North America - the DB2.

last production for NSX R was 2002

I say 1995 because the Acura division went to shit after that. The Legend was a terrific car, and the Vigor was half decent too (probably the most European car Honda produced.) I don't need to say anything about the original NSX.
The EG Civic was ahead of anything else at the time. The DC2 was a pretty damn good car too (though I'm of course partial to my DB2.)

The majority of the public are more concerned about re sale value, safety, fit and finish, dependability and so on. Stylng is a factor , but come on , in that compact class , theirs no obvious leader. Current gen civics are okay, mazda3 hate it or love it, corrola blah, focus blah, accent blah, sentra blah.
My point being, styling is not a major factor in that class.

It's a symptom of age, I'm afraid. It happens to everyone - 10 years from now you'll complain about how good cars were in the old days. :D
All kidding aside, if you actually compare the cars Honda was producing at the time to other manufacturers, there was really no comparison.

seriously i thought the crz was pretty good looking & things were looking good but this new civic is terrible, plus to make it worst it's like a nightmare that u just can't shake off even after u wake up
but with the good prices i think the kimchi cars from the SOUTH are really winning ppl over with the style & price (note i high lighted south cuz north korea makes cars as well)

Wow just terrible, looks worse than the current gen.
Mazda 3 was the best selling compact for 2009, dethroning the Civic. I thought Honda would respond with a comeback. They've ruined so many cars now with their new designs: TSX, TL, and now the Civic.
On a side note, the 2012 Civic Si looks like it got it's rims from the Mazda 3 GT
