They always do that to me and when I look at them and ask for chopsticks they give me this weird look like there surprised I know how to use them.
At number 9 they give me a fork when I sit down, a fork on the plate with my food and then ask me if i need a fork while I'm eating.

Us white folk are allowed to express our frustration of the racism we face when going out to eat. :p
How do you think we feel when we go to a restaurant and heads turn and you know they are talking about a white person walking in

If white people learned to use chopsticks in the first place, then you wouldn't have this problem now would we?

i always have to ask for chopsticks when i order delivery and half the time they forget.
and for those in the know: is it true that how you hold your chopsticks reflects your status? the higher up near the ends of the chopsticks away from the food you are eating you position your hands the classier you are considered.
after seeing karate kid when i was young, i made sure i knew how to handle chop sticks - i've never caught a fly though

basically part of table manners. alot of other countries have these "rules" and usually upper class would enforce it.
ie: using salad fork for only salad, how to hold it, elbows off table, etc.

as somebody who grew up using chopsticks, I actually prefer them giving me forks and spoons lol
Jerry Seinfeld: I'll tell you what I like about Chinese people. They're hanging in there with the chopsticks, aren't they? You know they've seen the fork. They're staying with the sticks. I don't know how they missed it. Chinese farmer gets up, works in the field with a shovel all day. Shovel. Spoon. Come on. You're not plowing 40 acres with a couple of pool cues!

I find Korean stainless steel chopsticks quite the challenge to use. And I am someone who was raised using wooden chopsticks.
Hey culture vulture, is that jaing bao? I cant seem to recognize what movie that is from.

bring your own chopsticks. cleanliness of utensils is usually not a high priority at most inexpensive chinese restaurants. a few people i know always bring their own and i have done this on a few occasions. as for the disposable wooden chopsticks that comes with take outs, i would advise against using those. the wood is bleached but not disinfected. since the material is porous, its hard to say how much of those chemicals are actually still trapped inside it. as for the folks that feel discriminated at restaurants, think about it this way. no matter how well they clean them, would you rather use chopsticks thats been in the mouths of hundreds and thousands of people or forks that are rarely used by only a few people.
