I'm trying to help my friend out. She is a legal assistant at a law firm but is looking for another job. Does anybody know if there are legal assistant jobs that aren't with law firms? Would legal assistant knowledge transfer to another industry where the job wouldn't necessarily be a legal assistant? Or where one wouldn't normally think employs legal staff? (Similar to how IT staff don't necessarily work in an IT company, engineers employed at insurance companies, accountants not working in accounting firms...that kinda thing)

Department of Justice currently has a legal assistant intake. If she gets in, she can always do her time and then move onto another department within the government if she wants learn a different skill set, etc.
