| Camera sensor cleaning
so i'm finally taking some wide angle pics with my "new" EF 17-40 L lens with my also not-so-new 1D Mark II "N" and sure enough i'm really beginning to notice the dust in my images(there's more than the highlighted red area, i just cropped a bunch out): 
i knew i had an issue with my cheap 35mm lens but i kinda didn't notice it too much with portrait style pics, but with a wide angle lens and taking pics of big blue skies, it's really noticable.
i've emailed Vancam and they told me $65, which is fair enough. BUT, they also told me something about it may be in the low pass filter blah blah and they would then have to send it to Canon. so on top on the $65, i'll have to pay Canon way more than that too.
are they just covering their asses and i should just do it? do you guys know anywhere else that is more confident in the job?

It takes a minute to do it yourself, and total material costs are about $3. People are crazy to send their cameras in to Canon/Nikon/Sony/Pentax/etc... It sounds WAY more daunting than it really is. http://www.beauphoto.com/cleaning/index.html

I just use the pump blower and give it a few squeezes. All is good.

air did not do the job. thats why i was considering getting it cleaned professionally, but i think i'll give it a shot myself.

bit of an update here. don't know why but more dust/crap on my sensor(filter). so, i bought a sensor cleaning kit which comes with a lens that is your basic magnifying glass tube with a built in light, some "spatula" shaped swipes,blower,felt tipped cleaner,and some cleaning fluid. the home made contraption i rigged up last time worked ok, but now to see the sensor like a skating rink is awesome.

and as a sidenote, i also went to Kerrisdale Cameras in West Van yesterday, first time. what a lame store that is. worse than Lonsdale location.

Hey I have to do this as well as I've noticed a few specs of dust on my sensor. I have to use sensor swaps and eclipse as the blower and built in cleaning doesn't work that well.
I just wanted to know which Eclipse solution should I get? Eclipse or E2? E2 is made for tin oxide coated sensors and I don't know if my Nikon D90 is tin oxide coated or not.
Help pretty please

The E2 has been discontinued - the regular Eclipse is fine.

So I got the swabs and eclipse and it got most of the dust off but when looking through my view finder there are two tiny black dots on both top corners and I can't get it out. I don't know it if its on my sensor, either side of my lens or on my view finder. It's still there after I cleaned the lens with a blower and lenspen. It doesn't show up on my images though. I dunno...

I don't have dust on my sensor. But I have some dust on my mirror
Leaving it for now since it doesn't affect the image.

I dunno... | No, the dust isn't on your sensor, it could be on the bottom of your focusing screen, that piece of glass above the mirror. Just use a blower and it should come off - if it doesn't, then GENTLY wipe it off with lens tissue.

same here. got some dust bits on the glass of the viewfinder, but none on the mirror, focusing screen or sensor. tried using a blower, but it's still stuck
just got used to it being there | |

I was wondering, my canon has auto sensor cleaning everytime I bout up.. Does that mean I won't ever run into this problem? Or is sensor cleaning something every camera has to go through? Posted via RS Mobile | |
