I think making some fobbed out sign is more effective

Ie. "you no vandalism"

"we watch you"

And so on

fobs wouldn't know vandalism :P

also, yeah those dummy security cams work... i think. my buddy got one installed in his backyard when kids used to tag his fence and the side of his garage. after he installed it, he said he hasn't had anymore problems lol

You'd be surprised how many of those are real cameras... and very pricey ones, too.

Why would you buy dummy cameras if you can have real ones for around $70-$150 a piece if you know where to look. We installed two wide angle, full color cameras with night vision and a switch for under $250. Its not thaaat expensive.

just steal an alarm force sign off someone's lawn and put it into yours

Whatever you do, don't try hanging up metal pie plates. Punk kids will come onto your property, disrespect your family, and take down the pie plates.

What are you using it for?? You can go really cheap and get a wireless securicam..
http://www.dlink.ca/products/?pid=664
$150.00
and all you need is a wireless router and power connection.

Either than that basically fake cameras hurt you when you need them the most.. Dont cheap out... Just look for full package deals.. Even costco has them @ time.. Ie. 8 camera system with pvr.

Hahahaha, that is the ULTIMATE in cheaping out. Costco package systems = pure junk.

then again, even if real cameras are not that much more expensive, how effective are they? i assume they'd be just as effective as dummy cameras at deterring unwanted activities just by their presence (assuming the dummy cameras look the same)...

but so let's say you catch kids on video tagging your fence or attempting to break open your tool shed... what's that going to do for you? all you're going to get is a vague description of the suspect unless you have a super quality HD security camera where you can see all the facial features of the suspect...

and THAT's only useful if the suspect is known to police or others. you'd be hard pressed to find some random suspect that you caught on camera.

This is true if you're talking about cheap Costco package systems with junky offshore IR cameras. However...

unless you have a super quality HD security camera where you can see all the facial features of the suspect...
This does not require super-high-end HD cameras... it can be done quite nicely with DECENT quality, PROFESSIONAL cameras.

and THAT's only useful if the suspect is known to police or others. you'd be hard pressed to find some random suspect that you caught on camera.
My experience, suspects caught on video ARE more often than not, WELL-KNOWN to police. Easily 80% of the video we provide for police, they take one look at the pictures and say, "Oh yeah, THAT guy!"

wanna give the exact location where these cameras will be installed? area is a big factor in determining if your gonna get robbed or not. lol

gonna put a dome one in front of my house looking towards my car.
and the huge police jail style ones side and back of my house looking towards my carport/driveway/ garage door

the reason im looking at dummies because they have no wiring. Its going to be too much work wiring one through the walls. Also i want people to see the cameras so they get scared and run off.

they'll get stolen.
when I was working at the mall back in highschool they installed 3 of those one week at the loading bay, the next day all three were gone lol
I later found one smashed in a shopping cartq

The box-type enclosure on an arm are easy to get down without a ladder - just toss a rope over it and give it a good tug.
