Just got an "important" update message on my work computer. Boy was that a mistake to update. The new msn live messenger, what do you guys think?

I personally am loathing it. They no longer have one way video. Your nickname changed only online and done in a First Name, Last name basis. Your display pic is also changed online. They keep a record of your taglines.

Sorry wtf?! Girl does not approve.

I personally love the whole "appear online" to certain people one-by-one while you're appearing offline. That's the only new feature I like compared to the old version.

But yeah, I totally agree how a lot of changes seem inferior to the previous versions. I mean, the whole display name firstname+lastname bit is pretty ridiculous, for starters. As for the mandatory two-way video instead of having the option of one-way feeds.... well good thing I use Skype for that. MSN-M is merely for chatting with my friends who actually still use it. Skype is pretty much superior in almost every way in comparison.

Appearing online selectively was available in the old ICQ days, I don't know why it disappeared for so long. It IS a handy feature.

I barely use MSN now too. I've only started using it again but not really.

It's been around a year and a half I think since I was on MSN all the time. Now I use Skype for all of my online messaging.

Everyone should migrate to skype ;). I like being able to make groups and being able to stay in the group convo even if you close it.

I tried mess.be but it looks like the site's dead now. None of the links work properly. Checked the forum and a lot of the posts are from 2008.

Kind of a shame since they used to be popular though the site was never very good in terms of layout.

I dunno bout you guys but if I can, I rather do stuff on my pc than on my phone. Bigger screen, easier to type, easier to navigate and handle many tasks at once, etc.

This makes chatting with friends easier especially if I want to share links and stuff with them.

And as an iPhone user, if you were to ask for someone's chat id, what can you ask them? Not everyone uses an iPhone and even if they do, they may not be using Whatsapp or the same IM app you are. MSN just seems like the logical choice to ask for.

I've tried it for a couple weeks. Got fed up with all the bugs and removed it and downgraded. Windows updates asks if I wanna update my system and it includes the Windows Essentials 2011 but you can just hide that specific update so your system will never ask you for it again.

download a-patch and tweak msn to your liking. Best part of it is removing all the annoying ads
