Anyone on RS playing Minecraft? I played a bit when it was free and I just haven't had time to start playing again. I'll probably buy it in the next couple of days though.

For those that don't know, Minecraft is a game (still in alpha) and it is just a HUGE sandbox. You can literally do whatever you want. I guess the learning curve is a bit steep since there is actually no tutorial in game (I think). You pretty much just start in your world and you don't really know wtf to do.

Once you get used to it, you can build amazing things. I see people playing around school, and a few people from my set play. They have HUGE mansions and castles and stuff. It's really a pretty amazing game, just takes a bit of time to get used to and a bit more time to actually build stuff that you want.

There are actual enemies in the game but they only come out at night. So you would need to stay sheltered and around light or else they will get you.

It's a really interesting game and it's definitely worth a shot. It's a lot of fun building whatever the heck you want.

There's also multiplayer which is exactly like single player except it's not just you building it's a whole bunch of other people too.

I think it's just one person developing and he's sold 465035 copies of the game and it's still in Alpha, but once you buy it you have access to all future iterations of the game. And its 50% off only €9.99($14ish CAD) during Alpha.

Maybe we can start an RS server or something if a few people play!

glass is as good as anything for mob protection I believe.

edit: what kind of connection do you have? From what I've read you need about 30KB/sec upload per person on the server currently, seems pretty unoptimized.

In Multiplayer, zombies and other mobs cant do shit to you. They're still broken.

The only monster that can do damage is the Creeper. Even then, he'll just blow up your base but you won't take damage.

I'm playing single player right now as not that many of my friends play it. I've joined some multiplayer games but I just walk around in awe at some of the things that they've made!

Single player is honestly just as fun, I had no idea how much time passed by when I was playing and I didn't really want to stop. I just gathered enough material to start working on my castle!

Yea it's pretty amazing how much this guy has made, and it's just him. He has no dev team I think, this whole entire game was designed and coded by him. I honestly think he deserves every single penny he's made.

Buying the game now is like a preorder bonus. When the real actual game comes out, we don't have to buy another copy or anything like that. Alpha also means it's still in testing stages, so we're also pretty much testers. A game with almost 500000 testers is pretty good. He'll be able to take all the feedback and make an even better game.

I hope there's a minecraft cloud or something implemented. I play on both my mac and pc and would like to keep making my stuff on both of it.

A 10 player server costs about $8 a month, but I'm not sure if it's going to be reliable. I haven't been able to find any like reputable sites that are hosting them. I checked most of the sites that I rented CS servers from but none have it yet :(

I know some linux, but I don't think we need it at all to actually run the server. Once the server is up, I think you can do everything in game.

The server i was looking at is just a virtual server running linux. Then we could load up a minecraft server on it. It's 5mbit unmetered or 100mbit with 500gb cap. 5mbit should be enough for 20-25 people.

we're talking about multiplayer survival mode, not the one where you just have infinite blocks to build stuff.

I'm also assuming minecarts/redstone will be fixed in multiplayer somewhat soon.

Oh I didn't know it was an actual server. How much ram does it have? Apparently thats what running a server really relies on since its resource intensive. About 128MB per player on the server.

You can still use redstone for very basic things in multiplayer i.e. triggering TNT in a TNT cannon. The only shitty thing is it's still bugged such that you are unable to see the TNT during its trajectory. You just see shit disappear when it blows up.

I don't think I can really get bored of the game, I'm still doing single player stuff but have controlled myself because of exams this week and next week. I just keep thinking of what I should build next and stuff.

I want to get in on some multiplayer servers and join in on the awesome structures that they build! I've seen servers listed on the minecraft forum trying to recreate middle earth which is pretty awesome. They've done Pokemon too and stuff like that.

I think the biggest the game get is 300,000x300,000 squares until it startes to choke your computer. I may be off a zero or two haha but it's something around there.

Records can be played on the jukebox and to get a drop it requires you to make it so a skeleton's arrow makes the killing blow on a creeper.
Sounds like hell.

They just got some US servers so they should be good! They seem like a reputable UK server company. I remember seeing a lot of Multiplay servers for BFBC2.

It's about $7.60 a month or $9 a month with a 15slot ventrilo. Even though $10 a month doesn't seem that much, but I can't be spending that much extra:( No job + full time student.

Let me know if you guys want to pitch in like a $1 or $2 every month or so! It's $30/$20 (with vent/without) every 3 months!

I'm not sure exactly what kind of rules we would have. I'd have to look into all the mods. I'd think everyone would be given like a 100x100 block of land which is protected. Meaning no one can grief you. And then from there everything is open. You can build what ever you feel like and maybe we'll get some actual buildings or something going.

Never really played multilayer so I'm not entirely sure. Suggestions?

Somethings I noticed while trying out online play for the first time. Server specific rules.

- Unlimited HP
- no monsters at night
- everyone builds anywhere they want
- people put up signs saying things like "TOSd's House"
- no real policing except all the regular players trust each other to not grief or rummage through other people's storage boxes
- community gardens, ie reed, bamboo, etc
- cool feature of teleport to other players, like if a player needed help building you could teleport to them or something if you are far away

Anyways I think our server should keep the monsters. And I'm liking that 100X100 no griefing zone but is that even possible?

Having unlimited HP and no monster spawning is a problem with the game not the server. It hasn't been fully implemented yet and is still in the works.

I'm trying to look for the mod right now for the 100x100 no griefing. But it think a good thing to have in our server would be like a general storage place. Where it'd be just a bunch of storage boxes and we'd store all of the materials we need for like big porjects or something.

if people want to chip in i can use that money to prepay additional months, or to up the player limit (15 atm) if there is alot of interest.

i don't know how long the 50% off deal will last though, after that it'll get a bit pricier. I'd say hold off for now and see if the server still has people that play on it in a month, no point in paying for more time if the player base dies off in 3 weeks.

Okay trying to play at work.. Having graphics problems..
Running Intel Core I3 550 w/ Asus P7555-M Pro Mobo with on board video card..
The glass in the game is all black inside so u cant see though it lots of black spots.. Not to sure what it is cause even on the EEE Pc the graphics are fine but cpu cant handle the game.

in the control panel you can do manual backups of the world. try and do them every so often and that way if some jerkoff wrecks stuff you can restore the backup.

I thought I would start some hints for people that are new.

1) When losing health on the tools drop them with "q" and pick them back up tools health is now reset.
2) F11 full screen mode
3) Type /who to see who's in the server
4) /spawn to go to spawn
5) /sethome & /home .. Self explanitory.

Add more if you know of any.

Roller coaster time!

* hellworld=true no longer overwrites old save chunks. Player positions will still break if you switch it on a running server, though
* boats are now visible to other players
* minecarts move nicer
* fishing kinda sorta works, but needs more work
* sheep and cows look like sheep and cows now
* buckets work now
* fixed stairs being really difficult to destroy
* increased the timeout before “Took too long to log in”
* made it possible to ride carts and boats (pigs should work too..)
