I think a lot of ppl moved onto Frostwire a long time ago, due to Limewire being filled with virus.

Using anything but torrent or newsgroups is major fail. Limewire and the like are just havens for viruses and malware.

Guess someone's gotta keep the GeekSquad in business though :D

Torrents will always be superior to programs such as lime wire due to community.

I've been using limewire for many years and have never got a virus from it. Be smart and don't download fake songs that are 500kb and make sure they have bitrates on them (ei. 128kbps,192kbps,256kbps)

Haven't used Limewire in over fire years. I'll stay with my Bittorrent thank you.

not missed. It had no control over quality rips, it was transcode heaven, it had lots of malware.

Limewire was great for single songs if you don't want the rest of the album.

woob
10-27-2010, 02:49 PM
You can choose individual songs to download even if a torrent contains an entire album.

Haven't used LimeWire in ages. For individual songs I just google "song name" and add "zshare" or "zippyshare" at the end.

once I found about Frostwire I deleted Limewire right away. Still nothing will ever beat Napster, man I wish I still had all the songs from back in the day :(

Frostwire, Limewire, whatever; low quality music sucks.

jpark
10-27-2010, 06:12 PM
^i dunno... i usually downloaded the song that had a slightly bigger MB than other songs and it was always great quality than the other lower MB songs

does anyone know how to avoid songs that will end up being "more souces needed"? Half of the time I press look for more resources it never finds any. I'm on frostwire and it's alright for single songs.

 I'm talking about the legal implications.

Newsgroups above all. No elitist attitudes commonly attributed with private FTPs, IRC channels, torrent sites, message boards, etc. Just sign up with a news provider, go on nzbs.org/newzbin/nzbmatrix, and download. If you're on Shaw, you can skip the first step, since they provide 30 days retention with their news service.

Best of all, you don't have to share anything. No stupid quotas to fill. Even better, it's very nature makes it very hard to shutdown.

I'm sad, off to uTorrent I guess now.

just as I thought... I tried it out. Limewire still works, you just can't get the software off their site anymore.

This is very true.

Although I stopped using these programs now, cause I find torrent more efficient. I usually grab an entire album, not so much individual songs anymore.
And if I do need to get individual songs, I just type "(songname) mp3 $$$$$$$$$$(/mediafire,etc)" and I usually will find it available to download quickly.

It's impossible to "shut down" because there are no centralized servers running as the backbone of the network.

lol

forgot about winmx and kazaa

I remember in the beginning, there was napster.

The last of these programs I use was BearShare.

Try Grooveshark.com if you don't mind streaming mp3's instantly. You can search almost any song and album listings on there.

grooveshark is ok for singles but i hate it for trying to play an album the way it sorts the songs.

Why aren't people using Vuze?
It's 10x better than limewire
