apparently the 1920s era hearing aids were about the size of a moto razr

Its not a phone, the person isn't holding anything THAT big. You can tell between 4:27 and 4:28 how the person moves their hand/fingers that theres nothing as large as a cell phone in the palm of their hand.

It LOOKS like a black object because of the lighting. Look at the shadows. It looks black because there isn't any light entering that little section she cupped with her hand.
