Accident on Queensborough blocking southbound traffic

All southbound traffic is blocked after a serious accident on the south end of the Queensborough Bridge. Emergency crews are on scene.

Queensborough Bridge closure update

New Westminster Police say the accident that has southbound traffic on Queensborough Bridge shut down since earlier this afternoon was caused by two break-in suspects fleeing from police. The two suspects drove head-on into a Mazda pick-up truck travelling over the bridge. They were apprehended minutes later. The driver of the Mazda pick-up is currently in hospital in serious condition. Traffic is still being re-routed getting onto the bridge heading south. coming from queensborough you can take a left where howe st. exit is, your supposed to go straight but it just has wrong way signs for stupid ppl ..obviously they were trying to lose the cops by going in the other direction

Queensborough Bridge re-opens after serious crash

All southbound lanes on the Queensborough Bridge have been re-opened. The southbound side was closed for almost five hours after a serious head-on collision.

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS1130) - Two people are in hospital after a serious head-on collision on the Queensborough Bridge earlier this afternoon.

A cube van drove into oncoming traffic on the southbound exit lane at the bridge, hitting a Mazda pick-up truck head-on. The two people in the van tried to run away, but were captured by police. The driver of the Mazda pick-up is currently in hospital in serious condition.

Both suspects are in custody, but no charges have been laid yet.

The van's driver was trying to escape police in New Westminster earlier in the day. Two suspects in the van had been spotted stealing from an abandoned mill. Shortly after noon, a police officer noticed a gate at an abandoned mill on Duncan Street in Queensborough has been rammed and two people were loading items from the mill into the back of a van. The two fled before more help could arrive. While escaping, the van clipped the back of the parked police vehicle.
The officer followed the suspects and tried to pull them over before their car struck a Mercury Sable sedan in the intersection of Ewen Avenue and Howes Street. The seventy-five-year-old woman who was in the vehicle had to be taken to hospital for treatment.
