So with the Kinect set to release November 4th... I have a gift card to futureshop to spend on some toys.
Debating between the playstation move vs the kinect. In the long run I'd probably get both.
Anyone have the Playstation move? Any reviews?
The kinect looks somewhat revolutionary and I'm a sucker for new things....
Leaning towards the playstation move though..

Ive tried the kinect cuz a friend of mine works for xbox. Definitely an innovative product. Graphics for the games is much like the wii, but game play was more fun. The kinect worked surprisngly well and accurate. I only tested a few games. A dancing game much like DDR without the pad and table tennis. I loved wii tennis, but the kinect table tennis was more fun.

id say go for kinect for now.. the software line up seems more impressive for 360's life support

the move's games seems mediocre and carbon copy of wii games.... socom 4 is the only game seem justifiable for the platform and doesnt come out til next year

im not interested in either but the Kinect seems like it's merely the Playstation Eye.. anyhow here's a list from wiki of whats available/soon to be for Move (guess i should include a list for the playstation eye as well but im tired)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_compatible_with_PlayStation_Move

apparently Kinect will launch with 16 titles so more or less matching what's available for Move now (im going to assume most of the new available games, for both, will be family based to attract more buyers)

if you don't have a ps3 yet id suggest that for the 3D gaming (but u'll need a 3dtv)

neither..wait until early 2011 when both have more titles supporting it.

i seriously don't see how kinect will be useful unless you are playing dancing games..

I would buy the Kinect over the move. All you have to buy it for 150 bucks, then you are good to go to play with as many people as you want. With the Move, you'll have to buy the bundle, which is the camera, the dildo, and a game. Then you have to buy a nunchuk pack to go with the first one you buy. Then buy 3 more dildos and 3 more nunchuks if you plan to play with 3 other people.

I haven't tried Move out yet, but I have heard from a buddy that it's not as precise as wii motion plus. I have played Kinect, and I had fun with it. Some of the games are pretty lame, and you do notice a bit of lag between when you do shit, and what you see on the screen though. Dance central was really fun.

Not really interested in either but from what I've seen, I think that kinect really has more potential if they can get it right.

Move is essentially just like the Wii with better tracking.

I'll wait a bit for kinect and make sure it doesn't move into gimmick peripheral territory down the road with a lack of software support in the future.

I'd probably consider buying the Kinect if it were $50. Even so I'd much rather just use my controller (or even my PC's mouse and keyboard) and play games men are meant to be playing.

Kinect & Move were both mediocre, unoriginal ideas meant to combat the success of the Wii. Meh

Both will fail but Move is an even bigger fail. At least Kinect is actually selling out.

Right now it's pretty much impossible to say. Wait for the Kinect reviews to come out tomorrow.

I'll be buying one for my wife, to play the Yoga game

i will go for move since you can do a lot more in terms of different genre of games

kinect looks fun, but i feel that it will be limited to what it can really do

You don't read the news? I'm talking about pre-orders, moron. And if that's considered a fanboy comment, you are one sad person.

I believe the kinect will triumph. It brings in a new revolutionary feature rather than the move which i believe is sony's attempt to copy the wii. I would rather get a wii over the playstation move. Nonetheless, i will still prefer controller based, old school gaming. This seems like another power glove phase which will end in epic failure.

Tried Kinect 2 days ago. My friend works for a game dev and got a set for free about a week ago.

I have to say, quoting my friend "it is a FREAKING PS EYE!!!" I still remember playing silly games in the PS2 era. That's exactly how you feel with Kinect. :D

I am still more incline to a controller based gaming experience. It gives you that fine touch that you can learn how to play better, with Kinect, you are just waving your body like a monkey.

Your friend is a game dev, and he's that stupid?

Try one and come back to me on that.

Notice how all the titles from Kinect share a very similar genre? It's because it can't go further than that. Based on what my friend says, you have very limited amount of possible input options from Kinect. The best you could do is X and Y coordinates. From my personal experience, Ars Technica sums it up perfectly

It's telling that when I play a game with the Move after spending a week with the Kinect everything seems more satisfying with the Move. The cursor has less lag on the screen. When I want to make a selection I just hit a button instead of hovering it over my selection for a few moments. Without buttons, there are many things the Kinect can't let you control, which makes the games feel dumbed down in places. A core game like a third- or even first-person shooter? Nearly impossible. Look at how many games here have your character standing still, or being on a moving platform, or the game does things for you because there is no way to control them with motion? It's a major problem, and it's unclear whether or not anyone has a solution. I'd love to be proven wrong.

We're going to come out and say it: Microsoft is going to release a Move-style controller for the Kinect within a year or so. Both gamers and developers are going to be frustrated by all the things the hardware can't do, and they'll demand a way to interact with games using at least one or two buttons. It's not a coincidence that so many games at launch are in the same few genres, you know. The hardware simply can't handle much else.

We had fun with the games and the hardware, but $150 for the camera and $50 per game? Not yet. Close, but not yet.

If you're expecting to play shooters with kinect, you're barking up the wrong tree :lol

Anyway, the point is this isn't "just like eyetoy"

The problem is that Kinect is, no matter how you want to argue it, a glorified eyetoy.

The only thing different is now it got a sense of depth, in which it doesn't capture much of it. If you try it you will see it's not very sensible, it DOES NOT move exactly to your movement.

That's why I said Ars has nailed it in its review. MS will likely introduce a Move like or some sort of controller for the Kinect camera to pin point its location (for additional accuracy) and some button to go with it.

The Kinect in concept is an incredible thing. Nevertheless, with MS trying to lower down to $150 (in which I think it's still expensive for a peripheral) and you get this sort of mediocre stuff. 640x480 VGA resolution in a world where HD is standard now? Let along the limited view angle, if you don't have a clear 7ft in front of your TV, forget about using it.

That is what is gonna kill the kinect for me, the 6ft minimum in order to use the device.

Get the Move, it'll cater more to hardcore gamers and already supports Heavy Rain (doooppeee). The tech is actually more precise, but we'll have to see what gets done with it. I actually don't have too much faith in Kinect, it's going after the Wii market, whereas Sony is going for the actual gamer market. Don't get me wrong, they're both Wii 2.0 and either one could go down as just a gimmick, but I see the Move getting the occasional killer app, due to Sony's first party studios.

i agree, nintendo wii has proven that hardcore gaming is possible in the same tech with cod4, metroid and goldeneye.. Sony played it safe with the Move

its Microsoft who is gambling on Kinect.

iv watched all the reviews for kinect's software lineup and every single one of them is a fail other than Dance Central, which the tech is the perfect fit for it

Gametrailers said that even with Kinect Sports, the camera can barely recognize what your doing and they find Joy Ride a nuisance since you have to stand up in order for the kinect to recognize your movement and awkard that your not holding any physical object... I dont know how microsoft will implement hardcore gaming on this tech, i cant imagine playing GoW3 on this.....

keep in mind that Rare made the Kinect branded games.

i just bought one for the sake of having one ~ i have both the move and the kinect.. even though the move is identical to the wii.. it tracks movement a lot better than the kinect =\ and even though preorders are sold out.. the kinect are in store everywhere

ok here is my take on the kinect, i picked up the 360 250gb bundle last night.

Navigating the menus is completely awkward, just because anyone is completely used to having a controller to use with. to click through the menus, you hover your "hand cursor" over a button and wait for circle timer to go through. Kinect requires you to stand up whenever you using it

you can use voice command for 360 dashboard but it takes 4 to 5 seconds for the kinect to analyze anything what you say. its completely impractical and i dont know why anyone would drop their controllers for this

however, IMO, i think the kinect tracks your movement more accurate than the Move.

lol at Kinect Adventures, your avatar detects every limbs and fingers on screen, you can give your tv the finger and it will show. The dodgeball game is fun, it actually makes you sweat because your using your body, from jumping to dodging etc . Dance Central is really good, its developed by Harmonix, it has the same scoring Star System as Rockband

its sad to say this but i would say Dance Central is its killer app right now. Gf woke up early in the morning today just so she can dance to poker face again

also sometimes Kinect cant recognize 2 or 3 people on screen like last night buddies were sitting on couch while someone is playing in front. i had like 7 friends over and we had to stay off screen.

It is a novelty tech but the Wow and Fun Factor is definitely there and had better experience compared to when i first tried the wii back in '06. As long as you have couple of friends over, it is fun and worth it.

im just skeptical what Microsoft going to do with Kinect beyond the holidays/next year, they can only release so much mini, sports or party games.
The Move has more potential for creativity in games

^^
I have to agree that after the mini/sports/party games there isnt much left to do with it and Sony realized this with the initial release of the Eye Toy during the PS2 days which is likely why they went with a controller add on in addition to the newer eye-toy.
