Got my self another paid gig for saturday night.. Now what is being asked of me is I print the photos on site, Usualy I get a bix box company to print my photos for me ones that I am going to frame for my self or family. Other wise the only paid working I have done is nightclub promotional stuff, so no need to print there..

I am looking for something cost efective here to do 4x6's, in the feild directly after I have shot them.
does any one have experiance with this?
whats the best setup for the least ammount of money?
I will have my laptop present for PP and to print.
Model numbers of printers, and paper reccomendations GREATLY appriciated!

cheapest dye sub would be a a Canon SELPHY for around $140 but it takes about 50 seconds to print, costs around .45 a print and holds paper for 36 prints.

I have a Shinko professional dye sub that hold 700 prints and shoots them out in about 20 seconds.

How many prints will you be doing that night.

probably going to be doing 100-150 prints..
Another thing, I will be using windows 7, it would be very nice if I could process and print off the computer, just to save time of having to run memory cards back and forth because I have heard of alot of printer compatibility issues with windows 7.

With something like a canon SELPHY your looking at around a minimum of 2.5 to 3 hours to print 150 prints if you go nonstop. You could spool 2 together to decrease the print time. I don't know of any problems with windows 7 and printers. I don't know what your budget is but I might have an all in one solution for you take can take a photo and print it out in about 40 seconds from start to finish. Sent me a PM If you are interested.

Yeah I would think a desktop inkjet printer would be the fastest and cheapest solution if you don't mind lugging the printer.

I have a canon selphy, and if you are looking for good quality prints this is not the printer for you. For quick prints that you're not concerned about accuracy then its fine, but don't expect them to be nice.

Just curious, but how you are going to shoot, PP, and print 150 photos in one night? Sounds like you're gonna be busy.

It will still take at least take 30 to 40 seconds to print and then you have to wait for the ink to dry.

Well there are some that do print faster like in the 10-20second range. As well you could use instant dry photo paper.

I used to be an HP rep, and can tell you that if you pair pretty much any new HP photo printer with HP Advanced photo paper, the ink is dry pretty much out of the printer. And waterproof to boot! (I'd wait about 30 seconds though lol)

Caveats to this- I haven't been keeping up with quality, but the HP print-outs that I did personally and for customers in store were inconsistent. Some turned out REALLY nice, while some had a terrible "orange-gray hue" to it.

The neat thing is that they can spew out a picture in about 30 seconds, and their paper (if you choose advanced) is barcoded for "optimal printing" by the printer with minimal input from you the user.

If you're going the desktop printer method, I'd suggest multi-tank solutions with 6 colours if budget permits.

One neat thing about being around so many printers- I can vouch that HP multi-tank solutions (at the time of working) were the most cost efficient, taking into account paper, ink price, and ink yield. They also have ink/paper packages that make it even cheaper than buying them separately.

I think you are charging way to little for what you are doing i charge over 1200 for six hours with on the spot printing.

Im doing an hour and a half, I dont have much of a portfolio at this point so I can use the easy money, Along with my buddy that will be doing the PP.
