Rat in my condo, what do?

OK so last night I just just chillin at home playing CoD, I thought I saw something move in the corner of my living room, but I was baked so thought maybe I was just seeing things. Two minutes later, same thing happens, turn around and look, a small rat crawling towards the kitchen. Guess it probably slipped in from underneath my door. So today I bought a mouse trap, now I have the rat trapped under my fridge, leaving one small opening which leads directly to the bait. But for this whole time, I used cheese and bread with a drip of honey, and the rat never seemed to be interested..... the thought of having a rat living in my condo just makes me cringe. What should I do now?
Btw trapping the rat underneath the fridge was a last resort, I placed the trap in various places and it never caught the rat. I've never had any experiences with rat so please chime in!

I had an exterminator tell me you should bait the traps but not set them at first. The rats are smart, they'll test them and shit. Bait it, see if he starts eating the bait. On the trap where the baits touched, do it again and see if it goes for it again. Then on the third or fourth time set the trap and hopefully he's comfortable enough with it where he gets got.
I got a mouse or mice in my wall and floor between my main and upstairs. I have no idea where the little fuckers getting in I might have to rip my ceiling open.

Call pest control, or buy those sticky pad mouse traps.

I would recommend peanut better over the items you chose, very effective stuff.
Burn your condo down. Blame it on Scientologists.

didnt someone post in the thread about a rat being in a car to not use those sticky pads since the rat will chew its own leg off in an attempt to get away???...
as mentioned above definitely try peanut butter that's what the pros use

they do, but when they do chew it, they get trapped even more.
peanut butter on a trap works well.

Haha it'll chew its own leg off? That reminds me of the movie Saw..
Depends how big the rat is. I've had a rat drag one of those sticky pads halfway across my garage floor (and it got away)
Lay out the trap in the same spot every time but don't set it just yet. Let it get used to the trap being there. Apparently like someone else had mentioned, they love peanut butter. Fruit works as does nuts (although that's much harder to put on a trap.
A somewhat more inhumane trap (but easy to build if you have these parts) is the bucket trap.

Use a barbecue inside your home and go to sleep. When you wake up the next morning the carbon monoxide should have suffocated the rat. All left for you to do is find the sucker and dispose of it.

Don't bother with a mouse trap. Just get the sticky pad thingy. Back in the day we lived in a super old building, and not only could we see the mice, we could hear them. Caught about 12 of them in a span of few weeks.

the sticky pads are only effective depending on the size of the rat.
if the rat is big enough, it can actually break free and all you'll find is rat hair on the pads.

Already have it on the trap, rat still isn't interested. it just keeps crawling around my kitchen underneath the cupboards....I'm hoping that it will become hungry and come out to the peanut butter:p

'chinese' flour (in the small clear plastic bags) + sealed box with only one opening with a sticky pad welcome mat.
Worked for me. Though it was a little mouse, not a rat. Place it along the wall where the fucker normally runs about.

Did you make sure to turn off the lights? I think it might be afraid to come out to get your bait if it thinks you're sitting there waiting to catch it. Cat's are pussies (pun intended) find a friend who has a snake

Glass cats work really well, I've used them before. They're a trap you bait. The rat can get in but can't get out again.
A real cat though is the best rat trap ever. Just... they tend to bring them to you when they're done with them.

A few years back, my mother-in-law's place had a bunch of mice find its way in somehow... chewed a small hole through the wall to get in and out... we put out a whole bunch of sticky paper and glue traps around the edges of the room, and it was partially effective. Caught some of them... like 3-4, but definitely not all. I think one of them managed to free itself from the paper, but I don't think it chewed its leg off to do it.

just a note re peanut butter as bait. dont use too much on sticky traps as the oils reduce the effectiveness of the glue.
use PB to get gum outta your hair. :D then get a fat kid to get the PB outta your hair. Then get a bear to remove the fat kid.

OK upon closer examination it's a mouse, which is sorta a relieve, lol. 2 traps last night, one with the water bucket, one snap trap. Left a small trail of cheese leading to the bucket trap with peanut butter, but the mouse only ate the cheese and did not get into the trap... gonna go out and buy some more traps!
sticky paper works well, so does the black box that traps them in and electricutes them (assuming it's a small mouse). coworker did the bucket trick and caught a lot, but if you dont clean it out it stinks that water is gross. he used a broom stick and empty toilet paper roll as the means to give them the slip.

I hear used condoms work great they go in for the jizz and then suffocate like a plastic bag as it uses up all the air while it's inside and tries to find it's way out.

dont get a sticky trap man, so cruel.....find a more humane way to catch it and then release it somewhere far away. What if someone put you into a tube of glue? wouldnt feel too good. Just because its a rodent doesnt mean it doesnt feel pain.

mice are smart motherfuckers.
once a trap is used..it's useless cause they can smell the scent of its dead comrade and will stay away from it.
i've tried using the ultra-frequency sonic rodent deterrent and it didnt work..but apparently they are supposed to work very well.

if you release it somewhere it's just going to become someone elses problem.
If you saw a mesquito in your room..you would just let it be? I'm sure it can feel pain too.

Dude that's so disturbing. I hate rats and mice, they're so creepy looking.
Ya if you use the sticky pads and place them in places u think they would creep around, they pretty much will walk on it.
I remember when i was a kid i saw a mouse in the dark (saw something move in the dark), and i freaked. Put the sticky pad near the door and when it tried to leave my room, it got stuck.
