Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knows how the midterm for Lemche in Econ 101 is. Everyone says just memorize the textbook and I'm doing that:) Are his tests reasonable and are there any tips to prepare for hid "midterm" ?
Also, does anyone know what core average is good enough to get into second year commerce from Arts? I know it's 65% before they even look but yeah..
Thank you!!:D

doesn't lemche just give you mini-quizzes on vista? i think he reuses a bunch of those questions

is he still making everyone do lyryx labs?
i took 101 with him back in 2008 and the whole midterm was based off the labs (exact same question format etc.)

Yes he is still getting us do to Lyryx Labs :p Do you guys have any tips or pointers for me on my "midterm" next monday? Like which chapter/part to study the most and if the midterm was based mostly on lyryx LABS or End of chapter question?
Thanks again everyone :)
lmao lemche is a joke
for midterm just do the lyryx lab questions until you can do it blindfolded, guaranteed A if you do that
for final you may need to practice additional questions from the book as well

I'd suggest you make an appointment with an advisor, they can give you the minimum average that was required for transferring into commerce for the last couple years. The number of seats that open up in a faculty always changes though, so the actual average required is constantly changing.

I went to one class for econ 102 and that was for the midterm. Showed up for the final, boom. Easy A

To be honest, with gateman, you actually learn stuffs. I regretted taking gateman during my first year. However, once I entered second yr and took 2nd yr econ, I was so glad that I took micro and macro with him. He actually gives you a solid foundation to begin with. My friends who took lemche were having hard time in 2nd year because of their poor understanding of micro and macro.

Lemche and his lectures are downright boring. Gateman's midterms and exams may be more difficult because they make you think, but you learn more from his lectures/course. It's not hard to achieve 80+ with either instructor if you know the course content.

When I took Econ101 with Lemche, the midterm was "optional".
I just did all the lyrnxs and attended the final and got myself a 80.
I guess its mandatory now? Lol.
Hah, his questions are straight out of the book, or at least they were four years ago when I took it... I got an A in the course by cramming the book right before the final.. I believe back then you could skip his midterm and have your final weighted 100% as well.

Thanks again everyone (I "thanks"ed you guys :)! Haha tegz you speak the truth.. Anyone know if the final was easier than the midterm or vice-versa? :D Also, do you guys know if he has different versions of midterms for each section or all the same? Thanks!!

Also, how does scaling work in his class? If I was above class average would it be scaled up a lot?
Also, how does scaling work in his class? If I was above class average would it be scaled up a lot?
It's not scaling, he just bumps everyone up by the same % to make the avg. presentable to his associates and boss LOL...
For ex. in my year, he bumped up 17% to a class avg. of 73... because the class's avg was 73-17 (can't do math) and 73% was where he wanted it at rofl!!

Wow, the class average was 17%? Isn't his course easy or does everybody just slack.. What did you get? :P
Edit: Oh my bad I misread, interesting though LOL

I hope you're being sarcastic... It's stated the class average was bumped up 17%, to 73%.

ya the midterm for his class is still "OPTIONAL"
Lemche just changed the phrasing a bit.
On course syllabus, it now says if you miss the midterm, the final will be weighted 100%.
Instead of saying MT is optional straight up.

Lol, my mark was weighted 100% to my final, I ended up with an 89% so I guess i got 72% as raw marks..
This really fucked me over.. after taking Lemche's course it kind of gave me too much confidence, thinking every other class would be this easy but since I'm actually a science student, things didn't really go my way with other courses LOL, so I straightened out in 2nd year and started actually studying xD

LOL tegz haha I'm not surprised, I would probably have the mindset after taking his class..
Did he tell the class how much he scaled by or did you figure :P Also, does anyone know if he reuses the same midterms every section? O_o

I think he uses the same midterm for every section.
Seriously, I think that you are worrying too much.
I am pretty sure that you will do very well.
(Well, as long as you review the textbook and the quizzes.)

THIS IS TRUE... many people in my year went with the "reg for Lemche, go to Gateman lecture" method

Lemche is pure textbook studying. There are some questions regarding the labs, but most of your marks will come from learning the materials in the book. My suggestion for you is... start reading!

yup like the guy above said, I got an A in the course w/o going to a single discussion lol
familiarize yourself with the main concepts of every chapter and the most important thing is to memorize the examples in the textbook as the exam questions will be almost identical :)

Thanks everyone. Going to vent now... :D
Haha the exam was brutal, he told us to do the labs and the end of chapter questions from the textbook.. Two questions were from the labs/end of chapter questions (10% of final). I guess he decided to change his test bank. Everything else were definitions (easy), but most of it was more than just understanding the stuff. If he told us what to actually expect then it wouldn't have been bad. It's unbelievable how he told us to study by doing labs/textbook...
Make me feel better gais.. i feel like shiets :(
P.S: Everybody I talked to thought they failed.. LOL thanks lemche.. I'll get you back for econ 102.. >=(

wait .... so most of the test was more than just understanding the material? can you give an example? you realize the point of studying by doing the labs and text is to understand the material, not to remember the questions and hope they are word for word on the test lol ..

To the people who just took the 101 exam, it is better for you to look over your final exam in the Economics office after you receive your final grade.
When I took 102 with Lemche, the TA who graded my final exam miscalculated my marks (off by 10 marks). Luckily, I spotted the error, and Lemche changed my final grade from B- to A-.

Don't know how much he's changed his exam format; took 102 with him last year, was basically concepts from the chapter questions/Lyryx and definitions
If he's still got the same format going and you're saying his exam is hard than I don't know what you'd think of Gateman

Im pretty sure I will pull a min B-, Thats pretty good for going to no classes, and reading 4 chapters for the final LOL. I just took the class as an elective so wont ever be taking econ course again... Its just so damn boring... can't even read the book cause I get distracted in like 2 minutes so dull.... Much rather take a EOSC class... something thats a tad interesting and easy aswell.

Well... Lemeche class is for people who doesn't really want to go to class. If you want more in-class learning, go to Gateman's session. Besides, if you really want easy mark, go for PHIL 120.
