Brian Jessel Autohaus is hosting a photography contest on Nov 20, from 2-5pm, and photographers of all levels are invited to enter! Submit your application form with the $10 application fee (before Nov 17, 2010 or $20 anytime after) and enter to win a $1,000 cash prize and a chance for your photos to be featured in our 2011 Brian Jessel Autohaus charity calendar! 12 models in Eva Chen evening gowns, featured in Vancouver Fashion Week 2010, will be posing with high performance cars in our tech shop for contestants to shoot.

Public is welcome to participate in the event, free of charge. There will be various food and beverage sponsors including Clever Cupcakes, Red Bull, Bella Gelateria, and much more. You will also have the chance to enter to win 2 DUO Eason Chan concert tickets for Dec 14, 2010 at Rogers Arena.

sounds like there will be a few models there to pose infront of the cars in the showroom for X photographers to take turns photographing them. Then the best picture from the cameras will be picked, no retouching. I could be wrong.

They're going to get hundreds of the exact same pictures, kind of a dumb concept IMO especially if they just want the raw images. Post editing is half the photo if not more. That'll be a monotonous calender with all the women around the same cars in the same location, they need to allow for more creativity! I'd be interested in entering if I could make my work actually stand out from the rest.

My thoughts exactly. They're great for high fashion as are the gowns but mixed with high-end sports cars in a garage...... bizarre combination. Personally I'd have gotten swimsuit or maybe alternative models. Good luck with the shoot Autohaus I hope it turns out.

They are trying for a "sophisticated" look it seems, but they are taking pictures of a Porsche 911, not a 7-series Bimmer...Just doesn't fit IMO.

so i was invited to a meeting for some insite last night to iron out the details of the event. brian jessel autohaus has a big array of cars that will be showcased at saturdays event. to keep everyone from seeing the same type of cars, they picked a good array of different types of cars.

Models will be dressed in gown dresses designed by a local designer. So if ur thinking of this as bikini models, then sorry to crush ur dreams. Background will be the physical shop bays themselves, so you will have to be inventive to have your shot stand out from the rest!

Amateur and Professional photographers will be all given the same chance to take their shots. this levels the playing field a little as not everyone can afford high end equipment and lenses. If you want to set up ur equipment and extra lighting, you will need to go a bit early.

Event is opened to the public. Final outcome is decided by the public on facebook.

I will be attending on saturday volunteering and helping out as well.

i had volunteered to help with the event, as most of u saw me as you walked thru the main door, and heard me as i coughed and mc'd thru the event.

Obviously, for their first time putting on this event, there would be a few small hiccups along the way, but when an untested location, this event couldnt have gone any better.

every volunteer put in their time helping out. Models came out looking stunningly beautiful, and cars were primed up for photos.

I learnt not to attend shows a decade ago when Bavaria put a many ass prints on my WRX aluminium hood ! Results - Brand new CF hood that's heavier than my stock WRX hood. Now, I hope my cousin's NSX doesn't get those sexy prints on the "all aluminum" NSX.

some of the entries just totally misunderstand the concept. grab a good photo that you took, tweak it to make it look outstanding but still look like a photo you can possibly take. some of the photochopping is just out of hand.

I think the general public has to overcome the misconception that photoshop is 'cheating' for photography. It's a part of the workflow for digital photography. It's like saying tuning a race car is 'cheating' before a race. Would you ever see cars in a race running straight from the factory? Not a chance, it'll be gutted, race suspension, aero kits, even different engine. But it's your contest, so your rules. My suggestion is if you didn't want the images to be as photoshopped, you should of stated that in the official rules prior to the event and not punish people's entries after the shoot and give 'out of hand photoshopped' images an equal chance at winning.

That being said, GOOD photoshopping should not be noticed and goes hand in hand with GOOD photography no matter how extreme. I am sure if a photographer is capable of doing good extreme photoshopping, he/she is equally capable of taking an amazing raw image. Like Matt :D

I think when we work as a photographer in today's world, Photoshop and post processing are essential skills to become a good photographer. We are speaking especially for pro commercial photographers. I'm not trying to convince anyone here but think about food without spicing, girls without makeup. There's still a boundary where the organics are better, but post processing is already considered playing in a different sand box. Just a thought.

With my line of work now, photo enhancing is build into my workflow. Photoshopping is my last worry now, it's all about getting the best shot out of the box and adjusting a few things afterwords.
