Not sure if this was posted before, but ran a search and didn't find anything and it's news to me! Dang, I was really considering trading in my car for the 2011's too! No way after these reviews.
They found it to be slower than the older models.
http://www.insideline.com/subaru/impreza-wrx-sti/2011/2011-subaru-impreza-wrx-sti-full-test-and-video.html
Subaru got upset and made them do it again, but the results were identical.

Not every car ends up performing exactly the same, maybe they just got a lame duck off the production line. That said the weight diff between the STI and the WRX is huge... 300lbs...

yes... but at the same time u get more LSDs, 1 more gear up top, bigger brakes, maybe some chassis stiffening, etc. etc. well worth the increased weight.

^ THIS!
keep in mind that they use 91 octane instead of 93 on those test runs.
There are lots of speculations that Subaru went with a more conservative tune to counter the infamous piston ringland issues, which plague the 08-10s. Other than the suspension, the car is pretty much untouched since 2010. The only possible explanation is the tune.
If 0-60 & 1/4mile is really your thing, maybe wait till spring/summer when some 2011 owners take their car to track and see if they put better numbers.
I love mine 2011 STI sedan and could careless that the car runs a tenth or so slower...as long as it puts a smile on your face, who cares?

Nope.
Then we called Subaru and asked if there was another STI available. The new STI arrived the following week and we sent our team back to the track.
The follow-up car, despite its different color and production status was no quicker. Three tests, two cars, one unexplained disappointment.

ummm every generation the EVO always out performs the STi
since 20 years ago it has always been that way
the 04 is definitely the best looking STi
the new ones 08 + is just plain fugly

The new one does look nicer than some of the older gens.
The 2011 WRX sedan is slightly faster crossing the 1/4 mile O.o" [13.8 @ 98.2 vs 13.8 @ 97.4 of 2011 STi]

yea, the regular evo X compared the regular STI was slower on the top gear test track.. (i thought the evo was supposed to be faster. but it wasnt.. )
and dude, the spec C has the fastest time in that video! LOL they were running reverse grid order.. fastest car starts at back.
jackygor// the only evo that i could think of that seemed slower than STi was.. the evo 7! :p and the earlier ones that were before the evo 3..
Mugen EvOlutioN
11-16-2010, 11:52 AM
that was the time attack result, slower by 0.20 seconds
the actual track result GSR was faster than sti by 2. something seconds
edit:
nvm i see what you meant
best lap spec C 1:04.49 total 5:33.40
while GSR best lap 1:05.20 total 5:31.54

Both are great cars but what made me choose the STI over the EVO was practicality. The trunk space in the EVO is very limited with its relocated battery/ windshield fluid reservoir the backseats doesn't fold. The Recaros hold very firm however are a pain to get in and out. Additionally the interior on the EVO seemed cheap and did I mention the EVO is more expensive? The STI just seemed to be a better rounded car.
Mugen EvOlutioN

i havent bother looking up the prices for EVO, i know they are more expensive
subie are actually pretty cheap
WRX starting $32g
while STi starts $37g and top model is $42g. for sti tunned suspension etc.
Basically no options to add to these cars, so pretty straight forward
IMO
i rather buy the $37g Sti model, and upgrade the others myself. 6 pot bbk, coilovers, exhaust, cobb ecu etc later on

Ditto!
I cross shopped both cars and I just cant justify the extra $4k for the EVO, being a 5psd vs 6spd.
Both cars have its merits and downfalls..
Now if the EVO is closer to the STI price like the states, then this will be a different story and the decision will be very hard one to make.

Agreed. You're buying a car, not a track time.
I don't know many owners of any type of car that go racing often enough, or seriously enough, for this minor performance difference to matter. And those that do usually make modifications anyway.

I love mine, upgraded to a sport tech sedan from an ep3 civic and this car is light years ahead in everything; comfort, performance, and still practical. With the seats down you can easily fit four wheels and tires with room to spare.

Except for the fact that the new GR have such nice wide fenders for some really aggressive wheel setups;)

about the article posted by the op. it seems like the test car they used was the sport tech or whatever the premium version is. im guessing the added weight of the sunroof and all the little extra bits probably was what slowed the car down. i would be interested if they ran a regular 2011 sti verus a loaded 2011 sti and see what the difference is. maybe those few tenths and the few extra km are found there.

From what I've read, the stock Evo X marginally out-performed the stock GRB STI. Nonetheless, being a better-skilled driver is a much more important factor.
They're both great cars, with different pros and cons. I picked the EVO X mainly because I just had to take advantage of their 48-month 0% financing. :eek5r:
To me, the stock GRB feels a bit too soft for my taste, but I'm sure a good set of coilovers and some bushings will solve that.

I am expecting the fullly-loaded 2011 STi sedan is about 100lb heavier than the 2008 USDM STI hatchback. It's just like carrying one passanger, I don't think it could slow the car down by as much as 0.5sec from 0-60?

The 2011 STI drives a bit firmer and more stable under spirited driving. I have driven 2010 & 2011 STI, and the difference was quite pronounced.
