Drunk thief stabs himself during botched doughnut-store robbery
By Staff Reporter, The Province November 18, 2010
An inept, drunk thief who accidentally stabbed himself in the stomach is behind bars.
The 22-year-old Vancouver man allegedly tried to rob a Duffin’s Donuts store on the corner of East 41st Avenue and Knight Street early Thursday morning.
When Vancouver police arrived at the store just after 2 a.m., they found the would-be thief drunk and slumped over on the floor.
As officers moved to take the man into custody, they found a large butcher knife in his possession and noticed the man had a stab wound on his right abdomen.
It is believed the man fell on own knife in the middle of the robbery.
The man was treated in hospital for a few hours before being transferred to Vancouver Police Department jail, where he is facing a robbery charge.
