CHILLIWACK (NEWS1130) - Chilliwack Mounties say a 14-year-old girl is under arrest for offering sex online, and for recruiting other girls into sex trade. A 51-year-old man is also in custody, accused of having sex with the girl.

An investigation began in October, but both were arrested earlier this month. Constable Lea-Ann Dunlop is disturbed the girl listed herself on Craigslist as an 18-year-old offering erotic services, but also recruited at least two other girls, maybe more. "I think we all know that in any community the risk is there for sexual exploitation, but I think we typically think of that coming from adults.

David Thomas Hilpert from Chilliwack is accused of soliciting services. He has been charged with two counts of sexual assault. Dunlop says the girl clearly looks much younger, and the accused could have easily recognized that. "The young female that has been charged is not only a suspect in the case, but also a victim. Of course anyone that did solicit those services has also committed a crime."

Mounties say further arrests are possible. The ad has since been removed from Craigslist and police are now trying to help with the girls involved and their parents.

The girl and the man charged will make court appearances next month, but the girl can't be named because of her age.

Police want to speak to anyone with information related to this matter.

well, what those 12 year olds call 'sex' should be called 'rape'... i think that stat puts a lot more responsibility of the act on the child than on the 20+ year old male that rapes her.

ie: 40% of those sexually active 12 year olds have been raped by adults.

there might be an issue of chicken vs egg here too. what starts these children down this path? outside influences like the media trivializing sex, the kids try it, practice it amongst themselves, then eventually hooking up with older men?

or was their first sexual encounter (which they may or may not have looked forward to) one with an older man (ie: rape) and thus having been violated, they spiral down the road of sexual promiscuity...
