I am on RS mobile and tye search function doesn't work very well, so making a new thread is more efficient.

Changing my winter tires on today and i noticed that my hydraulic 2 ton car jack doesn't go up. I got those $50 ones from crappy tire 2 years ago. Can this be fixed? Or am I stuck having to buy a new one? Bring it back to them and ask customer service?
Which one do you use and how much? Cheaper in the states like autozone?

Tonight, I had to use the emergency mechanical one and it was a bitch to work with... So i only swapped the front two tires in the mean time.

1. add hydraulic oil

2. tighten the screw for the hydraulic jack

if that doesn't work, you may need to get a new one. 2 year old jack, u won't get a exchange or refund from cdn tire.

Did you close the valve?

Princess Auto carries them. I think I paid 40. Like... 4 years ago.
It'll be on sale on Boxing day, so just use the emergency one for now I guess.

If it's a motomaster, I think they fix it.
Call them and check. I think they have a warranty on them.

I turned the screw clockwise to the tightest, then i tried to pump but it reacted very whimpy, like leaky ballon.

I still have the motomaster box but no receipt. I checked CT's website and these things offer 1 year warranty. It's just weird that the tool goes with only 6 uses in 2 years. Yea, I bought it in boxing day a couple years ago i think.

Is a 2 ton jack good enough for a Toyota Matrix? I think it weighs about 2800 lbs.

Yup, 2 tonnes(?) is about 4000lbs so you should be ok.

Hahaha I've been using mine monthly for the last 6 years and I was even just using it last night. It doesn't pump as much per stroke anymore, probably leaking fluid. It also never goes low enough and not nearly high enough. But it's been great to me.

I got the Motomaster 2 ton one that's going for $25.

Anyway, went to CT today and asked them what they can do about the jack. Without my receipt, they were kind enough to give me a $20 store credit and I can use that to buy another one. I guess I paid only $18 a couple years ago and that's what they said.

I told them I got it last boxing day and only used it for a few times.

^I have this one, works pretty good for the price.

For $50 you get the jack, jack stands and wheel chalks I believe.

^I think I will pick this up tomorrow as well. Getting tired of using my emergency jack...are you using it to change one tire at a time? or can you life up two tires at a time? Some of the CT reviews say it might not be able to handle moreo than one at a time

i changed 2 at a time, since the set came with 2 jack stands.

Perfect timing as I've been thinking about what to do with my hydraulic jack - scrap it, or attempt to repair it.

It's like 20-30 years old (my dad's), but it's solid steel and I'm reluctant to replace it with an inferior product, like something from Crappy Tire or Princess Auto (they don't build
'em like they used to). It still works, but it simply doesn't go high enough these days (it still lowers properly though). It's not leaking fluid, so what else could it be?
