It's illegal to put your baby in the front seat of a 2 passenger vehicle is it not? Oh I guess your car doesn't have airbags so I'm not sure about the legalities but it's def. not safe.

Keep the CRX as your fun car..

Buy a used Volvo 850 non-turbo or a pre-1999 2.2L Legacy as your 'family' car..

I think the air bag has to be disabled to be legal. My car has a detection system to disable the air bag if a car seat is installed in the passenger seat.

MINIVAN FTW

looks ugly, but lifting your 15pd baby + baby seat in and out of a spacious, sliding door minivan is way easier than any subcompact.

+ its way safer than a CRX

Dont forget room for the stroller and diaper bag!!

just sell the crx, better yet crush it, you had a baby your life is over.

get the most boring best valued somewhat decent car you can afford that allows easy access for your child without banging their head on the way in or out. i think the latter is quite important.

Actually I thought more on your issue and I have one final snippet of advice..... Get rid of the Baby and keep the CRX. CRX's are pretty rare and your better off with the CRX than the baby IMO.

you're right. coz you're not a girl at all!

^ you have no idea what a CRX SE is worth, do you?

it don't matter if it's made of platinum, it's still not going to be worth more than a brand new car...

All i'm saying is that if "her" plan is to sell it (which wasn't stated, but obviously inferred) then, it might be better off to keep it, as it wouldn't be worth to sell (as in sentimental value etc). Take it however you like, but your immature like replies show how much YOU know about someone you've never met.

For someone who's friends with a large portion of my friends, i didn't think i'd lose respect that easily for a person who I always (indirectly) had respect for.

You'd think mods would have a bit more self-control than to berate people online, and not bash people who they don't even know. No wonder all the old-skoolers have left, they grew up.

my thoughts exactly.

If your budget allows, get a second car like posted above. A sedan is nice, but then all you're gaining is the rear seat. If you can, you may as well go with a minivan/SUV, you'll get a lot more room (future storage abilities - we've transported my brothers dirtbike in my moms van with the seats out) and it's a lot easier to get the baby in the seat, as you're standing up while doing so (vs being hunched over) and babies can get heavy/awkward when you've got the child, a purse, baby bag and/or groceries to juggle as you get your kid into the seat.

I haven't driven many vans/SUV's, but my grandpas 07 Ford is really nice, a fair bit of power and super comfy to drive, bonus was a DVD screen in the back (great for long drives). Drove a 00 Caravan as well (same roadtrip) and it was quite nice as well, albeit not as smooth/powerful being a bit older. Also driven an 05 Rav, very smooth and quiet to drive, uber comfy and I was only using a fraction of it's available power driving around town/highway casually (V6 model IIRC, revs barely went up) and a 00 Cherokee, which is a rougher, more offroady vehicle (which may make it more fun for you if you're into that at all) with plenty of power (4.0L being a bit of a pig on gas sometimes though). The downside to the SUV's being that vans have those stellar sliding doors, giving you much better access to the mid/rear seats for child installation as previously mentioned.

In the end, it's all your decision, but I know that when I have a kid, they're gonna be travelling in a van, despite how boring it may be, because if I get into an accident, I want my kid in a vehicle that's big and solid and not some little tin can of a car (example: a girl in a Civic blew a red light, my friend t-boned her in his Jeep [nothing he could do]. she died, his Jeep only had minor scuffs). Cause as much as it may suck sometimes, your childs safety should always come well above your own enjoyment.

My $0.02, disagree if you like (yes I know cars have all kinds of safety features, but I wouldn't put a baby in my Celica where the child is travelling along at the same height as a trucks bumper)

of course you can say all of these things after the fact, but hey, more power to your argument. let's not make this personal, if you want you can PM me.

i'll add to my argument since you added to yours. a crx se is a limited production car that is highly sought after.

differences between regular Si and the SE:

Rear CRX VT style spoiler
Rear wiper motor and arm to accomodate spoiler
Front lip spoiler
Leather wrapped steering wheel, same as CRX VT
Double DIN dash piece
Double DIN CD and tape combo
Painted mirrors and side trim.
Special Edition door decals
Special Edition decal on rear center taillight garnish.
NH-550M Vogue Silver paint.
Only 250 were made with consecutive VIN numbers.

A large portion of the CRX SE's were installed with options at the factory including: A/C, driving lights (fogs), arm rests, and power windows.

^ the last tid bit is basically everything that didn't exist in a north american entry level honda.

i've only ever seen one locally and the owner was deadset against selling it until he literally had no option but to do so. so for you to say selling it wouldn't get you much money is incorrect. the last local one for sale i saw went for $5500 and this was within the last 12 months. now, consider the fact that your average ef civic is worth ~$1000 and your average crx si sells for ~$2000. that is a significant difference in retained value for three cars of the same era, all of which are 20yrs old.

you said that OP inferred that she wants to sell so all of this that I've stated would be great news to her as she may or may not have known the true value of her car. the main point here is, she could sell this car if need be, and recoupe a large amount to put towards another car or a new car.

Current value of a solid platinum CRX SE, $58,148,152.71.

Keep the baby seat rear facing and your all good and safe. Me and my baby girl rocked a 2 seater prelude (big system negated the rear seats) for a couple years only getting a dog changed that.
You can get a JDM rear seat for your CRX and you can also mount up seatbelts and an upper clasp in it the way it is to put the baby seat in the back.

spoon.ek9
11-27-2010, 11:49 AM

If you don't want to drive a boat, get a "compact" SUV. For example, a Honda CRV.

Personally, I went from a 97 Integra -> 97 Pathfinder -> 05 Pilot. I'm used to driving my SUV now. Soooo convenient (and I have a 2.5 year old with a massive car seat).

If the car is really clean and rare as you say, get a collectors plate and keep the car. Since the production number is really low, it qualifies http://www.icbc.com/registration-licensing/specialty-vehicles/collector-vehicles

If you are really serious about the value of the car, get an "Agreed Value" insurance with ICBC. It costs the same as any collector's insurance, you just need extra paperwork so if the car gets written off, you get a the "agreed value" back.
