i've heard of a handful of local rappers over the last few years and the pattern is either:

-local rapper is not that good, but actually original and often signed to a label. Flaw is they're not actually local. They immigrated to Vancouver because there's no competition, usually in the last 3 years.

-local rapper is very much local. Flaw is they suck balls, are total wannabe gangster douchebags and think that people have some sort of vision of East Van as a ghetto.

"Gangster rappers" should realize that most people from vancouver will half-jokingly call east van "the hood" in relation to better parts of vancouver, but will know that East Van is quite a nice and safe place to live, especially when compared to a REAL ghetto.
