it won't work, mobilicity like winds requires aws 1700/2100 bands, which no rogers phones support besides the n8 i believe? which is host to 5 3g bands

According to GSM Arena, your HTC Magic use the 1700 / 2100 band. Providing its the American Version.
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_magic-2714.php
2G Network: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network: HSDPA 1700 / 2100 - American version

If Wind and Mobilicity use the 1700/2100 band....it should work.

Same goes for the Iphone:
http://www.gsmarena.com/apple_iphone_4-3275.php
Its listed as: HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100

You can't just go by GSM Arena. There are different versions even within north america. He listed his bands in the OP so his phone won't work.

what's interesting is how these phones would retain some functionality but not full. i.e. problems sending text messages.

It's been tested and confirm iphone4 works with Mobilicity

- Outgoing works
- Income works
- Data works

yes only the 2g will work. And when mobilicity turn off the free roaming after they tweak the towers, u'll be charged roaming costs
