It was one about facebook that compares how people did something for a cause back in the day, and today its just changing the profile pic.
i tried keywords: cause, facebook today, facebook causes. but did not find anything.

i dont think people are stupid enough believe they are making a change with their profile pictures

Changing your facebook display picture isn't going to help the abused kids and child soldiers in any way. Unless you're also donating at the same time, then you're not actually making a difference.
This is probably another thing some bored teenager started to see how many people are stupid enough to tag along with the chain mail.
