Two high-profile TV anchors step down

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Pamela Martin and Bill Good are stepping down from their duties anchoring the local CTV 6 p.m. news. Their replacements will be named Wednesday.

Good and Martin have been at CTV for almost ten years. They announced to the newsroom Tuesday afternoon they'll be staying on until the end of the month.

Pamela Martin and Bill Good have been hosting CTV British Columbia's "News At Six" for almost a decade, taking on the job of cracking a B.C. market long dominated by the station that is now Global.

CTV British Columbia's general manager Tom Haberstroh says the pair established CTV as a news leader and made the station a player in the market, quadrupling ratings in the process.

Martin says hosting the local coverage of the 2010 Winter Olympics was the biggest highlight of her career and she says she's looking forward to entering a new chapter.

Bill Good says he, too, had been thinking about a change and says now is the time to lighten his workload and focus exclusively on his radio show on Vancouver station CKNW.

A new anchor team for the supper-hour television news show is to be announced Wednesday.

Maybe it was an end to a 10-year contract, since both of them moved from BCTV to CTV in 2001.

I never really liked Pamela, her face is always plastered with makeup. As for Tamara, she's been on maternity leave for like the past 3 years! It was almost as if she was no longer a regular in the CTV Vancouver lineup. I'd rather see Colleen Christie or Keri Adams as an anchor. But I guess Tamara wins the popularity contest.

You show up for work one day and are out the door. Most media contracts can be terminated with 1 pay period's notice and there is no security in the business and very little employer loyalty.
