I could see GSP and Towes being in the mix as well but I have to give it to Crosby to.

Crosby for sure.

That goal in the gold medal game inspired a new pinnacle of Canadian nationalism.

I actually disagree with that. The Olympics gave us a new nationalism and Alexandre Bilodeau really got us jump starred and it maxed out with Crosby.

Many great canidates. But in terms of accomplishments THIS year, it has to be Toews

Led Canada in scoring, led his team to the Stanley Cup, Conn Smythe.

Crosby has been a phenom for this quarter+ season, but in terms of accomplishments, i think Toews topped it. Crosby's OT goal against Miller, as nice as it was to have it, was ugly as hell. Toews topped Crosby in pts during the Olympics as a 3rd (or fouth) liner as well which is astounding.

Votto wins Lou Marsh Award

Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto has won the 2010 Lou Marsh Award.

The honour — decided by a panel of sports editors, reporters and broadcasters — is given annually to Canada's outstanding athlete by the Toronto Star.

Votto became just the third Canadian to win one of baseball's most valuable player awards.

The 27-year-old native of Toronto was a near unanimous choice for the National League award. He hit .324 with 37 home runs, 113 RBIs and 16 stolen bases last season.

Other finalists for the Marsh honour were hockey stars Sidney Crosby and Jonathan Toews, ice dancers Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, mixed martial artist Georges St-Pierre, figure skater Joannie Rochette, long-track speedskater Christine Nesbitt and freestyle skier Alexandre Bilodeau.

Crosby won the honour last year.

The panel featured representatives from the CBC, Toronto Star, CTV, The Fan 590, Globe and Mail, National Post, Rogers Sportsnet, TSN, Toronto Sun, Yahoo, Montreal's La Presse and The Canadian Press.

Lou Marsh is a former Toronto Star sports editor.

Could we still call MMA a niche market?

I think this year is quite exceptional with the home soil olympic games, which has greatly affected the world of sports. Everybody has their own perspectives of which sport has more influence, hence the hockey vs MMA disputes.

I have no interest in MMA, so my vote would go to Toews. Or Bilodeau purely because he won the first gold, which got everybody SO hyped up!

super cool story bro

but we're giving OUR opinions... not like our input would have any affect on the decision.

nor does it mean we all have to stop having opinions because the event is over.
