so l did a retake on my previous course that l failed. and now the mark released and l got a c- (which l am very happy with ) but the thing is for some reason my CGPA goes even lower , i thought a retake would over come my old marks. can someone confirm me with that ? thx

I spoke with an academic advisor on Friday, and she told me that retaking a course and getting a better mark will replace the previous mark, which would boost up your CGPA, but if you want further reassurance, take a look at this:

It's a pretty useful guide, read through it!

no not really , is just some courses l fucked up in term 1 and now l decided to fix it . but wat if it is a core class?
sfu probably just hasn't corrected it yet then. I was thinking maybe if it was core, sfu knew you'd have to retake it so they didn't factor the F into your gpa yet, but that's not likely

Naw, it takes them time to correct information. e.g. When I sent my first transcript, it only had 45 credits, but when i sent the full one (with 60 credits), it took them 2+ months to process it.

I thought failed courses are not calculated into the cgpa?

If I get a dismal mark in a course and its dragging down my gpa, say anything lower than a C, and I choose to retake the course, will my new mark replace the previous mark?

If you take a course twice, they would only take the higher mark to calculate your GPA. But even though it wont be used in your GPA, the lower mark will still be there on your transcript.

Your new mark would be the one being calculated into the GPA and your old mark would be given an "EXCM" notation around 2 weeks into the next semester. So you should check on gosfu again at the end of January. I got this confirmed from previous semesters and from the academic advisor as well.

don't forget SFU only lets you repeat 5 times throughout your sfu career, if the rule hasnt changed yet.

it makes me wonder if u ran out of tires (5 times) then wat can u do? I suppose u can redo them in College if they are lower level (assuming thats even allowed). But wat if u are at ur last couses ,and u failed that one and u ran out of retakes?
any one had that experiences ?
