I mean, c'mon, giving the guy 4-5 seconds to comply? Unlike that other incident in Seattle where the officer punched the woman in the face, this is TRUE police brutality. I feel rather sad when I hear about stories like this.

^ I think cops general rule is if the situation calls for you to fire your weapon, it's gotta be a situation serious enough for you to kill the individual, they aren't taught to shoot to maim, they're taught to shoot to kill.
They don't want any confusion in case there is a real danger and the criminal actually has a deadly weapon they plan on using on the cop, so the cop gets confused tries to shoot him in the leg or whatever and the criminal just headshots the cop, they don't want that shit happening to cops...
BUT WE DON'T WANT THIS FUCKIN SHIT HAPPENING TO INNOCENT CIVILIANS YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO PROTECT faggot trigger happy pigs!
This type of shit is embedded in my head deeply so much, that when I get pulled over and cop asks me to give him ID, I keep eye contact with him the whole time slowly reaching for my wallet while telling him I'm now reaching for me wallet in the glove compartment. I also keep both of my hands clearly hanging out the window so they could see my hands at all times.
overkill you guys may think, even most of the cops think I'm retarded and ask me why I'm doing what I'm doing, and I can put my hands down etc.... but since I have cops pulling me over thinking I'm a drug dealer that may be packing I think it's the safest way not to get shot.
One time I was pissing on the side of some building in Gastown and a street cop stopped me I literally raised my hands up finished pissing then turned around basically exposing myself to the cop and asking his permission to zip up, and did so in his full view so he could see both of my hands were being used to tuck in my junk and not reaching for a gun. Cop was cool though, he joked around about busting me for indecent exposure, lol.... I just told him about how I grew up in a warzone and I had cops and military personell shooting at me and my house at times, so it's something that I can't shake out of my head just the way I'm wired.

" ... John T. Williams, the woodcarver fatally shot by a Seattle police officer Aug. 30, was struck by four bullets on the right side of his body, indicating he was not facing the officer at the time the shots were fired, the attorney representing the Williams family said Tuesday.
"There's nothing looking like he was facing toward him," Seattle attorney Tim Ford said of Williams' position as the officer fired. "It was all right side."

"It has not been disclosed in which hand Williams was carrying the legal, 3-inch folding knife recovered by police at the scene."
"But O'Neill said, in general, an armed person who is standing sideways to an officer can still pose a threat."
"Williams, 50, who was a member of Nuu-Chah-Nulth First Nations in British Columbia, ignored three commands to drop the knife, police officials said. The department originally said Williams advanced on Birk, but later retreated on that statement."
A 3" wood carving knife?? WTF.
Edit:
http://www.seattlepi.com/local/432014_williams18.html?source=mypi
The first shot appears to be fired five seconds from when Birk first told Williams to put the knife down. Court documents show the knife was closed when photographed by investigators.
Straight up murder.

According to the court filings the Knife was Closed when recovered so he likely folded it back in to turn around and in the span of a few seconds was shot to death (this was in a news1130 report)
what's ridiculous is in the USA in most states you're allowed to carry a gun (Washington Included) and this guy simply had a little carving knife... i actually thought he was cutting a Banana in the video
edit: here it is Court evidence shows the knife Williams was holding was closed at the time of the shooting.

Shows you how fast cops can get to a scene if they want to. Five police cars and two police bikes arrived in about two minutes.

The article didn't mention that leading up to the shooting he was getting more and more agressive with people around. A month or so ago, they released some of the cops dash cam videos of a number of encounters with him, each time getting worse. It was shown on Kiro, Komo or King5 news.
I remember one video a female officer was talking to him calmly and he was yelling, swearing and getting pretty agressive with her. She calmed him down a bit and he left but when she got back to her vehicle, she told her partner and told them that he'd never behaved like that in any previous encounter.
Not sure if anything could've been done but he probably should've been in a mental hospital or something.

Half deaf bro has a (legal) 3" knife, that's closed. Cop sees him with said knife. Cop yells (he seems incapable of simple reasoning or you know, asking nicely). Since man is partially deaf and on a busy street in the downtown area he doesn't hear. As the half deaf man begins to turn towards the officer to see what that vague sounding noise he heard was. He gets popped five times in the side.

the account by the officer reads like he was coached or at least had help. What a load of shit.
If in fact the guy was displaying some mental problems during other encounters then why was nothing done by those officers at the time.

Take his badge away and throw this fuck in jail so the homeboys can show him what's good. There is nothing in this universe that can justify dumping half a magazine into someone like that. Fucking tragedy because some fuckup of a cop was probably having a bad day and happened to have a gun handy.
wow wtf. Dude had a KNIFE, not an AK-47 aimed at his head. Whatever happened to shooting to dis-arm, and not to kill!??
Police are trained only to ever shoot to kill. Anyone on this planet with a gun, should only ever shoot to kill. If your intent is anything less - you shouldn't shoot at all. Police carry jacketed hollow points - those are only good for one thing...
