For all mankind is a great documentary. The best aspect of it is the complete lack of any narration. Its just footage, which really puts you in the moment and is a great unadulterated way to experience the moon walkings.

Lots. Everything by Kevin Smith (which even if you've already seen it is worth a watch). Crazy Heart, a bunch of great docs (R-Rates and The F Bomb are both about the FCC's influence over American, and there by our, media and worth a watch). Doctor Horrible's Sing Along Blog....

I watch a lot of quirky comedy apparently.

I assume it is not available now as a result of licensing. Hopefully these films will be accessible in the future once the licensing agreements are worked out for Canada.

A lot of people complain netflix is gay because there aren't new updated movies. But I find there are alot of random good movies I used to WANT to watch but never had the time

winson604
02-09-2011, 03:01 PM
Just started my 1 month free trial and although there is clearly a lack of really good movies I do like that there are a bunch of random B movies or other random never heard of before shiet to watch. Heck for $8 that's like the cost of renting 1 new release. Yea yea I know who rents still but you catch my drift. I will probably extend past my 1 month trial and stick with it for a while. If anybody has any doubts just try it for a month first it's free anyways.

As for how I'm watching it, I'm actually watching it on my PC, Xbox, and PS3.

i was thinking about using the program on my PS3.

I use it on my PS3 as well, because of HDMI cables, the quality is nicer than what you would get than on say something like an iphone.

Netflix isn't worth it yet like it is in the states, just wait until there are better selections and more movies. Also, shaw is fucking us over so i don't know if we should even be using netflix.

Jegz
02-14-2011, 10:52 PM
While a lot of people complain about the lack of "quality" movies, I find a lot of hidden gems in Netflix. Totally worth it IMO, even if u watch like 3 movies a month on it. If you haven't seen it yet, I recommend American History X, Requiem of a Dream, Memento or even a series like weeds or heroes. Netflix is the shit when you're just bored chilling at home.

DanHibiki
02-15-2011, 05:03 AM
I got 2 more days before I have to cancel my account.

I'll be back when their content is even somewhat close to what the Americans have.

i just signed up for my free month and saw rampage... not bad, sorta. about a guy that goes on a rampage and kills 9X people.

next film ill watch is probably EXAM and then 1984

can i ask why our selection is limited? i looked up sorcerer's apprentice and it says NOT AVALIABLE. but it's on netflix.

is it cuz we're in canada? is it cuz CRTC has some kinda fucking bullshit control over what's avaliable?

thats fucking BULLSHIT man. i want my FULL SELECTION MOTHER FUCKERS FUCK.

The selection is getting better by the week. Personally since I have Movie Central on my cable I get mostly new movies on that and then use Netflicks for older stuff.

Generally I recommend Netflicks to people with kids too cause my daughter and I have run through Avatar, Invader Zim and iCarly, a wack load of documentries on there and not even put a dent in the list of things for us to watch together.

I watched Weeds season 1 and 2 and ended up downloading the rest of the series... Couldn't wait for the other seasons to be added. Moviewise, I watched "les Miserables" with Leam Neeson and Uma Thurman. Great historical/period piece... And on a completely different genre, i watched "American grindhouse" a documentary about the history of Grindhouse theatres and the progression of exploitation films.

Reviving this thread a bit:

I just started paying for a new feature separate from netflix.
Unblock Us - unblock your favourite video and social websites (http://www.unblock-us.com/)

It's 5$/month or 50$/year, and basically when netflix tries to identify where you're from I think it gets redirected to an American IP address so you end up with the American Netflix !

I've been using it for a couple weeks now and it's been GREAT! Once you purchase it, you can set up your PS3, desktop/laptop and even your iPad/Android Tablet! (I did it on my ASUS transformer)

It's 2012 and I'd say it's pretty decent now. Time for a thread revival. Well at least I need to revive it as I'm doing a lot of work and I sort of need some visual background fodder so I need suggestions/hidden gems that my favourites aren't picking for me.

Forget about VPNs or Proxies. Just use a proxy DNS service like Unotelly or Unblock-US. It's works for a lot of stuff you can't normally access from Canada. Instead of routing all traffic through a VPN or proxy, you'll get full use of your bandwidth.

It should work for Amazon Prime, although you'll need an American billing address, AFAIK.

I havent been on netflix in 2 weeks so not sure if this one still works but ive been using it for the last 2 months and i stream HD videos with no problems

primary 184.106.242.193

secondary 67.23.7.56

pretty damn easy to find new ones.. just look up google videos and people usually put it in the comments lol

Those DNS IPs won't work, unless your IP is attached to an active account from Unblock-US.com, since those are their servers.

Is Netflix, currently, working for you? Because when I use those DNS servers it doesn't work. On my workstation, when I try to go to Netflix, using those DNS servers take me to the Unblock-US login page. For whatever reason, you either have a valid account, or your IP is associated with a valid account, or maybe you got lucky, and they eff'd up. I dunno. If you go to Unblock-US (http://www.unblock-us.com), what does it say for your status on the top right?

Has anyone else, following this thread, been successful with those DNS servers?

The current IP I'm using has remained functional for the last 2 weeks. Now, I have a nice cache of IPs to work with, in case it goes down again.

My wife and I are still working through Lost. We just finished the 4th season. Streaming HD content eats up a lot of data, though. We're up to 400GB this month!

Didn't see your last few posts till now.. No I don't use unblock US cuz I don't wanna pay extra, but I noticed the dns servers only work for a limited amount of time, I got 4 months outta my first now it seems every. 2 weeks I gotta find a new one, which isn't hard to do but o well, can't complain since its free lol

I have been trying to get the different DNS codes to work for me for several days to access US netflix, no luck. I’ve actually tried a primary and secondary that works for a friend of our on their PS3, doesn’t work for me on my PS3 or my Xbox.

I’m logging in, changing only my DNS setting to the new DNS numbers and leaving all my other settings the same. Test the connection with the new numbers and everything works, but when I log into Netflix, I still only see the Canadian content.

I have tried resetting my router, modem, console, and Netflix accounts. I’ve tried different numbers, some of which I have verified work for a friend to get the US content. I am wondering if my setup has something to do with it. Dlink 655 router, wireless for both consoles, and on Shaws service.

Any thoughts on what I may need to change to get this to work?

So you've set it to auto, let the system pick up all the info, then go in manual settings enter the dns. Restart the ps3. Then launch netflix while holding down start and select, which will clear the app settings, then enter in your account info.... should work...

Also, I think you need to setup DNS with a computer first. Login on the unblockus site, do the dns jiggy and make sure you're all green with the website...

If you want American Netflix on Xbox, Ps3, iPad, Mobile phones, STB's, etc. just add these numbers to your DNS: 9.123.111.24, 190.14.36.90

Doesn't work for PC though.

Enjoy!

It's very akin to shows like The Newsroom or West Wing. I love these types of shows, especially when they're well written, but they're definitely not for everyone. Try watching a couple episodes before you pass it by, though.

Homeland just came out for (Canadian) Netflix. I'm about 7 episodes in the first season and I still find myself so incredibly bored by it. Do any of you watch it? Does it get any better? Right now I'm still confused as to how this show single-handedly beat the likes of Breaking Bad, and ending Mad Men's amazing streak at the Emmys.

it does get better. finale is great. season 2 is better.

season 1 sucks 'cause it's kinda predictable. Him getting close to being caught and finding ways to escape blah blah blah. I was afraid to watch it at first because of that.

Just noticed that one of my all time favorite movies is on Netflix now: City of God. The story and direction is amazing and the cinematography is top notch. Truly worth watching, even if you don't normally watch foreign films. The performances of the child actors (many of whom weren't even actors) are world class. Fair warning though, it's a pretty brutal film so not necessarily for the faint of heart.

Ignore the fact that the best trailer I could find is in Italian (the film is actually in Portuguese with English subtitles)

It's called Outnumbered

Outnumbered (TV Series 2007? ) - IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1086191/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1)

It's basically a show about the Dunphy's from Modern Family, British style
I actually think the creators of Modern Family probably got their idea for the Dunphys from this show. now when i say its "british style" i mean that the characters and storylines are a lot more reserved and the jokes are a little smarter

It's not on Netflix afaik, but Black Sails is an epic show that's free on YouTube (was aired on Starz as well).

I dont mind marco polo 7/10 its abit slow I think I'm on episode 4 or 5 but yeah its not bad. As for netflix being slow as fuck putting decent content for use, I have been watching suits which is a great show. Found out season 3 has 16 episodes and netflix only had 10 episodes for streaming. I tweeted netflix and they gave me some lame ass response saying they only got the rights for 10 episodes. How the fuck do you get the rights to 3/4 of a fucking season? Just boggles my mind how a company who have been in buisness this long takes forever to add shit. Its year 2015 they shouldnt take this long to add movies that have been out for years.

^^^still garbage! getting licensing for 3/4 of a season is unacceptable!

^ That's like that with most tv shows in Netflix tho... Breaking Bad, SOA they only had certain seasons then once the hype, dvd sales or what ever is gone they will give Netflix the rights.

Any movies worth watching on netflix this month??

We just watched Flight, I really liked it. It wasn't what I was expecting at all it kind took a more serious turn but it was good.

apparently top gear is getting removed next month. :(

netflix has a lot of older movies now...but it just doesn't stack up to US netflix.

Anyone watched "The Grand Budapest Hotel"?
I saw it a while back...just saw today that it was nominated for a bunch of Oscars.

It was a pretty good movie...the storytelling was good, acting was solid but it felt a bit rushed at the end. I dunno if its deserving of that many nominations though.

I just saw there's a show called Z nation on there! It's about zombies and shit I'm hoping it's better then walking dead! I gave up on that show since it was way too slow with too many build up episodes...

Signed up for Netflix again after 2 years, wanting to rewatch Battlestar Galactica. Found out it's gone, along with a lot of the previous content.

Seems like they're adding a lot more "B" type movies and direct to video type movies than before.

A little OT from Netflix but.. I read all of the Walking Dead graphic novels as they came out, when I found out they were making a show I was beyond stoked..then immediately let down and I didn't even watch past the first season to this day I still haven't seen the tv show but read almost all of the graphic novels. It's so slow and boring and they basically cover 1 graphic novel in 1 season. If you get the chance read the books instead they're way better, fast paced and suck you right in. Let me know how Z nation is??

Every month they update it add/ remove shows and movies. For $8 a month you can't really go wrong.

if it follows the old british show season 3 will be the last and will be about his downfall

side note you should watch the british series if you don't mind watching old shows (90s)

Everybody Has A Plan, isn't bad, it's an Argentinian movie with Viggo Mortensen as the lead..

Anyone watch Sense8 yet?

I just started seeing the ads for it and the premise looks pretty interesting so far.
Pretty good directors behind it...The Wachowskis (The Matrix), Tykwer (Cloud Atlas) and McTeigue (V for Vendetta).

Chef's Table...amazing series. The quality of the footage is right up there with Discovery's Planet Earth. It's pretty ingenious the ways people have chosen to approach the art of cooking. I highly recommend checking it out.

ERMAHGAWD!

I'm on ep 11 of sense8, it picked up pretty good after the 4th episode. Kinda reminds me of heroes. I don't see it going for more than like 3 seasons before getting stale. It's good so far though!

Kinda reminds me of a mix of ER and Heroes.

cant wait for this shit to come out on Netflix on Aug 28! 10-part mini-series on Pablo Escobar

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7elNhHwgBU

The Medellin cartel - the most violent, ruthless and wealthy criminal organization in the history of modern crime. And the one man who lorded over them all... Pablo Escobar.

NARCOS is the true story of the U.S. and Colombian efforts to battle the Medellin cartel during the cocaine-fueled drug wars of the 1980's. Multi-layered and multi-faceted, NARCOS depicts a brutal world where lines are blurred and little is black and white. The Netflix original series, starring Wagner Moura, Boyd Holbrook, and Pedro Pascal, premieres August 28, 2015.
