porn on dialup.... when is this from 1995?A quick Google search shows Defcon 18 is November / December 2010.

I'd imagine not everyone in USA has / can afford broadband.

Think about it. How much is a computer even worth? Most aren't even worth stealing if you have a half-decent job. This guy must really not be that wealthy if he couldn't even afford a $500 machine.. even 14 Dolla Balla can afford that with his 6 bills. :lol

good story. heh.

too bad the police could probably only charge him with possession of stolen property. instead of the actual b&e and theft.

but yes, always record your serial numbers of any of your $$$ property. it makes it easier for you to prove that the recovered property is yours should the police find it.

Lesson: If you buy stolen computer, wipe the shit off of it before you connect it to the internet.

I don't know, he didn't really own that guy that badly. He could've fucked with his life a bit like, for example, P-P-P-Powerbook.

to be fair, that Melvin guy may have bought that computer off of craigslist.

but i mean the unemployment forms sorta screwed him.

being that his computer was stolen in MA and it ended up in Las Vegas 2 years later I find it more likely that Melvin simply bought what he thought was an old, used, computer

kinda bad for the girl too to have her pics shown like that

I wouldn't say owned. He didn't do anything except collect evidence and submit it to the cops.

He should've fucked with his life a bit.

Agree, that was a bit of a welfare. It took him over 2 years to get a $500 machine back, it clearly was a point of principle not money, so why not friggin own that guy online?

Kind of a bit disappointed.

oh yeah obviously! how couldnt he realize he was buying stolen goods when buying an ollld computer.... wth kinda comment is that????

who the hell would buy a used computer with a password lock on it?

its not locked to use hence he can use it... just some elements are locked and this guy obviously doesnt know how to use a computer properly so he more than likely wasnt aware of any password locks on any features when he got the comp

I bet he wouldn't have guessed that the computer belonged to a hacker.
