New Years Eve and they only extend the Skytrain by ONE FREAKIN' HOUR?!?! ... most if not all clubs will be closing at 2am, some even 3am (Ebisu will be open until 4am) so they expect everyone to leave early from NYE celebrations? :2finger:

and no you don't get a refund if you get into habit and throw change into the farebox.
Cause you know someone out there is going to do it.

Whats the point of "free transit"? So people can afford to spend money on one extra drink? People that normally can't afford transit fares can now afford to go drink? How is this really helping aside from staying open later?

Translink keeps saying they're losing money, why don't they scrap the free transit thing and extend transit hours to like 4am? Its not free but i bet tons of people will still be using transit at that time, given all them road blocks and shit

Not too bad free Victoria transit starts at 6pm.
I highly doubt there is enough volume on NYE to justify bus service between 2 and 4am.

you guys know taxi's run on NY's too? i know there is long wait for taxi's but so will the lineup be for public transit. If they have money to shell out for booze and food, they shouldnt complain about paying for taxi, it was only $3x.xx from yaletown to richmond.
ebisu open till 4am? what time does liquor stop?

no complaints about taxi; i usually take a taxi anyway. It's more - wtf is the point of extending transit by 1 hour? or making it free? go look at when transit stops on new years in a real city.

^in all honesty, i wouldnt want to take public transit when 80% of the ppl are drunk, especially if you are with your gf/ wife,
i can imagine the fights that would occur b/c of the wrong look, accidental bump, etc etc.

to prevent people from drinking and driving? they provide a way of transit. perhaps they don't extend the service long enough for some people, but it's there if someone needs to drink that night so they don't have to drive home and hurt others along the way.

When people go out drinking, they don't decide against taking transit because of the cost. They will take it because its a fairly convenient way to get home (when driving is not an option ie. when drunk). Saving $7 round trip won't give THAT much incentive for people to take transit. Extending the hours for a bit after clubbing hours WILL make more people consider taking it though.
BTW, Im not saying drinking and driving is right.

So people would rather drive if they had to pay for transit? :haha: They deserve to crash and die.

Transit here is shitty. On weekends and Holidays Skytrain servcie ends around O_o yea like that's really helpful not to mention buses stop working after 12lish.

So I was at the Renaissance last night... and we stayed till past 2am, so too late to catch the Skytrain... but fortunately I had done my homework in advance, and knew that there was an N19 bus that runs all night. We had to walk to Howe and Dunsmuir, about five blocks away. Luckily pretty much all of my group of ten lived right along Kingsway, between Fraser Street all the way to Royal Oak. We caught the bus at 3am, and by the time we left downtown, the bus was PACKED... like rush hour packed... full all the way up to the driver. Never been on such a rowdy bus before either... whole bus would be singing bus songs and cracking jokes. Unfortunately for a few of my friends, someone sitting right behind the driver puked just before Boundary, and the bus driver kicked everyone off the bus... LoL... so they ended up having to grab a cab afterwards. :haha:
