| Need help with looking for someone/household with ip
Hey all, my friends gmail hotmail and Facebook accounts were "hacked" by an outside source, she has now retrieved her accounts back and somehow obtained the ip for the person that did it, is there a way to find out who did it or where the attack was from through ip? Posted via RS Mobile |

You need the time of access as well because the IP may have been dynamically assigned. Look up the IP and see who the ISP is (Telus, Shaw, Cogeco, AT&T, etc). Send a email to the ISP's security team and see if they are willing to provide the name of the person using that IP at that time.
However, most ISP will not give you this info unless you are the police, or the lawyer. Worth a try anyway. Furthermore, the "hacker" may have been using a proxy, so the actual IP may not really be what you have.

Report the IP to Gmail, Hotmail and Facebook... they take these sort of attacks seriously and can get the proper authorities involved.
Beyond that, there's not a lot you can do yourself short of launching DDOS attacks against the IP... assuming that person hasn't changed IPs; you could be attacking an innocent third party.

They probably won't give you the user's info themselves, but they will certainly be interested in looking up that user - if they're received other complaints, they will usually be interested in doing something about it. Make sure you whatever logs or evidence that shows the source of the attacks, to give to them.

Well if the person was smart he/she would have used a proxy but I agree, it had to be a friend.

just post the ip here and let the RS sleuths handle it along with the RS gang to handle the hurt and if the perpetrator is a girl let the RS gangbang crew take care of that

Having someones IP doesn't really do that much. Mainly because IPs change overtime assuming it was assigned dynamically. IPs aren't a secret and they are very easy to obtain. Like other people are saying they probably used a proxy.
facebook isn't that easy to hack.
they're prob right when they said it was a friend.
either they knew your password, they guessed your password, or if they have access to your computer they could have installed a keylogging software.
my only other guess is if your friend uses her FB somewhere public.. like a internet cafe or something.. if she's not using a VPN someone could easily be sniffing her packets or hijacking her sessions. They can see the passwords your typing into your account in plain text...

^^ post her pics and RS might help =D
Anyways yes most IPS company will not give you any info unless there is a police report in which case the police dept will call and call with them. Happen a few times where I work. However usually police won't really care about it unless is a life threatening matter (death threats for example).

Shaw ip shouldn't change that much....but it would be very difficult to obtain the user info "legally"....
just find some friends of friends who work at shaw, and they should be able to find out who that person is very easily...(he or she would be in trouble if shaw caught him releasing customer info to 3rd party tho)
