It's 5 speed.
It's right hand drive.
What else do you want to know?

Make sure 100k maintenance has been done, timing belt, water pump etc. Most importantly, do a compression test. Also check for little things here and there as little repairs do add up. Ask about aircare as well. From what I remember, this car has been on the market for quite some time.

btw have you considered looking at some R32's? They're relatively cheap now a days.. anywhere from 4-6g's can find you a nice GTS-T. Buddy of mine picked up a R32 GTR for $9000 with new paint job + refreshed motor, AND WORK wheels.

Ive got a 89 R32 GTS-T type M, mechanically mint that I'm letting go for that price range. 2.0L Inline 6 turbo (~260hp) on stock psi, runs flawlessly with minor mods. OP pm me if you're interested!

IMHO the r33 gts-t looks like ass if your gonna buy a boat at least make it a Z lol or you could just spend that money on a r32 GTR or spend some more and get a well worth it r33 GTR

i was always told not to buy a modded car for a first car, I can't decide on a first car tho !!!
I want one that looks sick but.. soo many factors you know?
I'm looking at skylines now, are skylines 1990 and under still like reliable?
cause there are soo many skyline versions and stuff I can see, whats a good year/type of skyline at around 8k?

How expensive is the skyline in repairs? I'm guessing very since all parts need to be shipped I'm assuming. How expensive is it to do something like a typical oil change? lol

Moded or not doesn't matter, just as long as you don't think/try to be the stig or something when you first get it, and actually take the time to get to know your car and learn about it then your totally ok!
You can get a nearly mint condition r32 gtst for 8gs. I suggest that specially for a first car, and for the fact that if you break something on it parts are so much eaiser to find for a R32 then a R33 lol.

why is r34 illegal here. Omg they're soo sexy. tbh R32 and R33 isn't the style I like, but r34 is just jaw dropping. Whats the HP on a stock 32 and 33, are they ok on gas?
Oscar_Binswood
01-12-2011, 06:19 PM
IMO, you shouldn't be buying a skyline for a first car. Too many negative stories regarding novice drivers + skylines. Parts are quite interchangeable between other Nissan models. IE, oil filter is the same as a 240, brakes are the same as a 300zx TT.
As for mods, it really depends on what is done and how the car has been looked after. You can save quite a bit of money buying one that already has a few goodies on there.
Like any used car you should budget some money into doing general maintenance, or just having leftover money in case something does go. Check out www.gtrcanada.com, www.skylineownersusa.com lots of information there.
Please by all means, do your research before you buy.

yea I guess, I'm looking for something newer so I'd get something with lower miles and cheaper to maintain, but an old faster car would be sick too. im actually looking at impreza 2.5rs as well, are those any good?
Oscar_Binswood

If gas is a concern don't buy one. If you're not willing to fork out the cash to maintain it, don't buy one.

Stock r32 gtst has 212 hp and a stock r33 has 250hp and R34 is illegal because on any import you have to wait 15 years past the original make date before you can legally insure it in canada

from any japanese domestic make, they need to be 15 years old from the manafactur date to pass customs in Canada to be let in... if you have connections or are in the army... there's probably ways to surpase that though.
Keep in mind R34's are like twice the price, R34 GTR's are even like 35k+ average, around 40-50 for a NICE one.

Thanks and also for the gas comment, I guess I'll stay away from skylines till I'm older and can buy a R34 or R35, my dream car btw.
Guys wanna help me out with choosing a car?
Picking between the Impreza 2.5RS, Honda Civic SI, its brother Acura RSX and still open to suggestions. faster would be better unless it's aLot worse on gas.

Yes it has been on CL for a long ass time even I remember it. If it hasn't sold for so long, there's a reason why. You don't need to find out the reason and waste your time, just avoid it all together.

Or maybe there's really not much of a market for these cars around this time of year. Price is also a factor, considering for like $1000 more you can find a R32 GTR.
kolkim, have you considered a boosted civic? My old EK made a little over 200whp, and that was enough fun for a while. They're also fairly cheap now a days.

^ +1 this. I say buy a 240sx.. Pretty reliable for a first car and somewhat kinda like a skyline. You can always swap in rb engines in them. But good luck finding a un-rusted, unmolested, non drifted clean 240 there hard to find

why not get your N first? and I'm being serious. New drivers shouldn't jump right into a RHD car right away.
You should also narrow down on a budget..and whether you want a FWD/AWD cause you seem to be all over the place.

I am all over the place and I'm not very good at explaining myself, but I'm now very leaning towards WRXs, just looking for one in my price range, but if I happen to see a fast Honda Civic I will look into it!
^your going to have a tough time finding a unmolested one

your first car should not be RHD
Nicotine
01-13-2011, 08:13 AM
1. NO RHD as first car
if u decide not to follow that
2. 5 speed
3. 100km work done
4. AC working or else its gonna be a bitch for you to replase it cause they do not repair those old ac units anymore.

for a brand new driver, nearly any current day models are plenty fast
but yeah from the sounds of it, gas consumption doesn't matter because he sounds like he'll go WOT at every intersection.

I highly recommend against a JDM car for your first car. Get used to driving a LHD car first.
Plus you are going to have so much headache looking for importers of misc parts on that car without ripping you off big time.

It's your first car, get something in the $700 to $3000 range. Use that first car to gain some driving experience first. When you grow older and after graduating high school, then you should decide to spend on what you really want.
Do a lot more research on the cars before buying. Something like mid 90's Accord, Civic, Integra, Celica etc is what you should be looking at.

I always see these L drivers always wanting to jump into the whole drift scene when they first get their licenses.
Get a beater car, get some experience on how to drive and maintain your car from there. Don't be all flashy just so you can ride into your high school to show off your new "whip", the road doesn't need more ricers.
If you crash that new 6+ grand car then you're just wasting money, stay in the 700 - 3000 range as someone said

Buy my sr'd 240. Going in for a paint tmrw too

i agree with this. 1989 tercel ftw and then I drove a del sol for the longest time, quick enough for me at the time and with 2 seats you don't get peer pressure to take on more passengers than you are legally allowed.
Gain experience and work up. I'm in a RHD soarer and will never look back! I'm also glad i didnt jump into it right away. Looking back as a fresh N driver it was far beyond my skill at the wheel.

GC8 and Celicas are nice, until you find out how much your insurance costs. (This was a shocker for me when I first got my L back in 2000, things might have changed now)

Sorry man, no way in hell a stock GTS-t is making 260whp. Even on 14-15PSI with the stock T25 that is dreaming. :failed:
