Is it a simple upgrade or more involved than that?

just so i wouldn't have any issues i did a fresh install of windows 7 ultimate, and put my files on a external hard drive..

it's good that way too in case a virus hits ur computer or the computer it self fail's.

I have done that upgrade 6 times now on various computers and found it incredibly/surprisingly easy, whether a legit copy or not. it will literally take care of everything for you.

it depends if you are going from 32 bit version to 64 bit version. or vice versa then you need to do a clean install... if you are going from 32 to 32 or 64 to 64 then you are fine and it will just upgrade.

Depends what type of Vista you have, if you're running basic or home premium then it isnt a simple upgrade. For versions greater than that, then it should upgrade directly, there is a walk around however, check the link below:

Regardless of how "easy" it could be, I always recommend a fresh install. Less problems that way. Also, with a fresh install, it saves all of your files in windows.old folder on the drive you're installing to.
