I think Kal Tire will fix a simple nail for free.
You're lucky it wasn't a spark plug.

i prefer to do it myself and learn it actually knowing that i can repair it myself without taking the tire off

Kal Tire will fix small punctures like that for free but if you go to Canadian Tire you can get a repair kit that has enough for several fixes for a couple dollars. Instructions are very simple on the repair kit as well.

then why not look up yourself where or how to repair your tire?
Sorry to jack a thread - I got a screw in my tire - would that be ok to just patch? I'm guessing the hole is much bigger than a regular hole from a nail....

I only believe in patch repairs. I used to plug my tires at home but after numerous applications I found that a patch is much better at sealing the hole. Any automotive shop CAN repair a punctured tire. If they can't repair a tire properly then it says a lot about them.

dont do the kits that plug it only from home.

patching it from the inside is the only reliable way imo aside from buying a new tire

If some of you guys don't want to do the DIY patch kit at home, then just take it to the auto shop. It's a minor fix, like $5-10buxs.

^Overpaid a bit. You can usually get a patch done from 22-28 bucks on average. At least you got it properly done. :)

I go to my auto shop in Richmond. It probably depends how bad it is, if it's a nail, then it's a relatively easy fix, so it shouldn't be costing a lot.

PROTIP: Kal Tire doesn't charge to patch your tires. They might quote you $20 or something but once it comes time to pay they just give you the keys and away you go. I know because I used to work there.
PS: Tire plugs suck. Plug patches or quill patches are the way to go

if i get a flat/punctured tire, i always take it to kaltire.
I bring a can of something or a box of mac/cheese for their donation bin.
if they arent busy, its usually very quick..

I went to Kal-Tire on recommendation of you guys on RS a couple months back. Brought a dozen donuts and they patched my tire, inspected my car, and filled up my windshield washer fluid.
Great service!

I did part of my apprenticeship there 12 years ago and back then we only used combination patches. IMO the only way to patch/plug a tire unless it's on the side of the road.
patches:
+fine if it's a really small hole
+won't tear out
-doesn't protect the tire plies
DIY plugs:
+DIY
+cheap, multiple use
-can tear out
combination patch/plug:
-cost
+seals from the inside and can't tear out like a plug
