don't get your hopes up...Infinity Ward is dead. Plus, COD series is getting a little repetitive now that we've seen yearly releases 6 years straight...whereas we haven't seen a full-scale 64 player military action game like BF3 in 6 years. You don't have to account for distance/wind.
CS hitboxes are HUGE. Even bigger in Source. It's ridiculous.

There's nothing more satisfying, than getting a Marksman Headshot from across the map when you account for Distance/wind/movement juuust right. All that while shit is exploding, Choppers are crashing, and buildings are crumbling all around you. Think an asshole is camping behind that wall? Shoot a rocket at it, or launch a 40mm Nade. No more wall, and a kill.

I hope BF stay's true to their roots. I enjoy playing all COD titles but BF is very different right now. I hope it stays that way. I enjoy the slow more challenging aspect of BF. Bigger maps and harder kills is what makes it what it is IMO

Loved the idea of always accounting for distance, bullet fall, wind, almost EVERYTHING when using a sniper; made it the best part. And there weren't retarded AC130 strikes from campers every 20 seconds

I'm starting to think Frostbite 2.0 is going to similar to the source engine when HL2 debuted in 2004. To have a significantly large map (which is given nowadays) + multiple high rises for you to go into + to have multiple entry points to each floors of the building; it would make the game extremely boring. an 10 minutes game would mean 1 minutes spent from re spawning to running back into the action central, then spend 1 minutes running up ONE building for 14 floors and then spending another 1 minute finding people... it would really slow down the pace of FPS.

each game in BF2 was roughly 30-40 minutes i think...and you can just spawn off your squad leader so you can just jump right into the action...it's so awesome jumping out of a blackhawk with like 5 other squadmates to capture a flag haha.

and there was a map on BF2 where you could climb a 10 storey hotel's ladder to the roof for good sniping times...sometimes you are killed before you even make it to the top though because it take slike 20 secs getting up.

i dont recall the one across being taller but it was less obvious sniper nest for people to check.

yeah karkand had some really elevated ones...but you have to be very patient for enemies to capture your last flag cause it was tucked at the corner of a map

I think the multiplayer will always be epic. it's just multiple stages, as long as the game dynamics is done, all you have to do is just throw players in and that's it. It's very linear and throw on 10 maps and you're done.

However, to have a good story line, to have all the stages tie in together and to make freaking sense.. is another story....

Usually if it's a multiconsole release it'll be almost exactly the same. The PS3 only shines when it's exclusives.

I think you'll be doing yourself a favor by getting it for the PC. It's going to be a completely different experience from the console version of the game. 32 vs 32 instead of 12 vs 12? That's a pretty big difference and just having that many more players just adds to the environment and the feeling of being in an actual war.

Classes that everyone is so use to have been changed a bit:

Riflemen double as medics
Support class is now equipped with a light machinegun
Sniper is long-range and demolitions expert
Engineer is the master of disaster destroying and repairing vehicles


Other important changes:

Revive - You can opt-out of revive. No more resting in the middle of a huge firefight and instantly dyeing.


There is also reportedly weapon attachments which allow you to adapt the classes to how you want to play, like a rifleman choosing a grenade launcher rather than advanced medical equipment. One thing that was made obvious was that suppressive fire is actually a part of the game. When sending a hail of bullets it not only gains you points, but also dims and shakes the screen of those affected.

Vehicles have also been tweaked out. They now generate a small amount of health when damaged, but in order to heal completely they need the assistance of an Engineer. They can also be immobilized right before destruction giving Engineers time to intervene and save it. This could be a nightmare and that is my personal opinion. It's said that it is to help alleviate rage that comes from one shot kills from a rocket. Take for instance a team that loads up in a humvee only to be blown sky high with one rocket.

This is pretty big for those of you planning to buy Battlefield 3

Apparently EA marketing has gone around DICE, and made some of the essential weapons/accessories only available through buying a pre-ordered copy / buying from certain stores. If you didn't order any of these your going to have to dish out additional money to get these items

Alot of people are boycotting this until they they decide to remove the dlc, and if you want future shooters to go down this road you should considering boycotting it too.

alpha trial is apparently starting up very soon...EA has released the specs but mentioned it may change (further optimization I'm guessing). they had hp regen in battlefield bad company 2, so I assume it'll be a similar system to that. However, the HP regen is much much slower than other fps so if you're almost dead you'll stay that way for a good 30-ish seconds. And usually an average player can hunt you down still in that timeframe.

its not hp regen its the same system as bc2 where medics throw med kits on ground and you slowly regain health.

Game is ridiculous so hard now just because of prone.
The alpha map metro is meh because its majority ground fighting.

The lighting of the game is AMAZING makes you feel like your actually in combat.
If you see a shimmer of glare on the corner thats a sniper that just spotted you with his gun.

Will I stil buy the game yea, but for me this alpha test has been a huge letdown if its a sign of things to come.

Now, I hope I'm wrong, but with the game coming out in about 3 months time, this "alpha" build had better be a really old build that they're just testing to the public. Because if this is the alpha build using what they have at present there's just so many issues I have at least. Does it look pretty, definately, I built my new desktop 570gtx, i72600k, 16gigs of ram just for battlefield 3, but this is alpha so far has been a far cry from the hundreds of hours of enjoyment I've logged with my friends in battlefield bc2.

I understand that they're trying to attract the COD MW audience, but to make the movement so glidey it doesn't bode well for the battlefield series. Knifing has pretty much become a humiliation tool rather than an actual viable close combat option as performing that kill sequence opens the door for the enemy's teammates to stroll in on you.

Yeah I'm nitpicking, but this alpha just didn't have the magic that the battlefield bc2 beta had back when it was released for public consumption. I hope they intend to change the UI which is currently has a terrible chat box location and font, as well as the victory screen ui half of which gets pretty difficult to read due to the white smoke on white text.

Again I understand that it's an alpha, but I really hope this is an extremely early build they've released to the public to test, b/c if this reflects 80% of what the game will be like, I'll be pretty sad.

Yeah I'm aware of their warnings in regards to graphical/latency performance, but it doesnt say anything about general gameplay mechanics which I'm sure they're pretty set on. Like I said the game looks visually amazing, but as an actual game that'd I'd have a fun time playing this alpha has me somewhat skeptical. Its a facimile of its predecssors as it stands now in this alpha build, and has traded mechanics for wider mass appeal to the larger COD audience. On a side note.. I really hope in the final game it doesnt take 6+ rockets to a vehicle to take it down.



As for the RAM I went with 16gigs as I set a budget, I'll probably upgrade when I need more. And yeah I do some graphic design work and rip/encode 3d blurays for my DIY 3d projection home theatre.

Bad Company 2 is nowhere near balanced, not to mention the awful hit detection, which actually got worse post release.

Anyways, I've been playing in the alpha. Hit detection is really good, runs great (looks as good as BC2 maxed out without all the options aval.) and framerate is about the same.

Hit detection is much much better, best infantry combat BF series has ever had (own them all except 2142). They also removed all the bullshit abilities that were in BC2 like the sensor ball or the stupid mortar ability.

3D spotting back and is really shitty, basically free kills for noobs that can aim at the symbols. There is a thousand+ poster thread on the alpha site that wants to bring back 2d spotting from BF2.

Can't really comment on vehicles because the map they are testing with is very infantry oriented. Although I will say, it is not nearly as confined as the Bad Company 2 maps.

I was really to shit on this game, because I really dislike Bad Company 2. The game feels nothing like it other than the fancy ui. I think if they bring back the command rose and fix 3d spotting this game will be amazing.

there seems to be less vehicles due to less factions? My guess is they wanna save quite a few for DLC. That said, the soldier specialization equipment seems to be pretty good.

Ultra setting is confirmed for PC, no details on what that actually means but I won't be surprised if you'll at least need HD6970 or GTX580 to run it at 60fps @ 1080p

lol well i normally like using the anti-tank rocket to kill choppers

but when im a sniper i snipe pilots when they get into the cockpit

its hilarious cuz they're like "Yes i got the chopper/jet" and POW :fullofwin:

probably medium settings provided you have 8gb ram...but probably comes down to your video card choice between medium/high. just guessing here
