This just came out on DVD. For those of you who don't know the story, Pat Tillman was an NFL player who gave up the "American Dream" to serve his country in the war on terror after 9/11. A salt-of-the-Earth guy who did everything for the right reasons both personally and professionally. He was killed by friendly fire, there was a cover up, and he was used by his own country. This is a sickening story that will show you just how corrupt the US government can be, and how high that corruption goes.
I watched this along with "Waiting for Superman", docu talking about the (fucked up) education system in the States and how kids have to get into a lottery in hopes of going to a better school....makes you really appreciate the crummy public elementary school you went to here.
Family was told he died in an act of bravery during an ambush, saved all the men in his unit, total hero. Had a big funeral attended by the very brass that fabricated that story. Public gets wind, big ceremonies at Cardinals and ASU games, all over the news, all kinds of patriotic glitz and glamour. Details emerge later he had his head shot off by his own men. Everyone knew about it right away, but because of who he was the government and the military were afraid off the fallout so they made him a hero instead of a victim. And even after they get caught they continue to lie about what happened to Pat, leaving the family to fight for the truth on their own all the way to Congress.
Wow, just watched the whole thing. I'll admit, back in 2002, I thought Pat Tillman was a complete tool for giving up a professional football career to enlist in the military. But now to see statements and facts about what kind of person he was, makes it clear why he chose to leave the NFL and join the Army.
As for the actions by the military in Pat Tillman's case, the Jessica Lynch rescue/film production and finally, the "i don't recall" statements by Rumsfeld and the military brass is just terrible. Betrayed by your own country doesn't even being to describe the situation.
If you don't want to want the whole thing, just watch part#3. See the actions by the military after his death, Pat's funeral requests that he secretly sent to his wife and the speech given by his little brother at the funeral. That right there should be enough to get your blood boiling. I know mine is.
I didn't know who he was when i first saw this gag so i googled him; I pretty much found all that shit that JD13 pretty much just posted.
It was funny.. but in a very morbid sense... (the clip)

pat tillman was an atheist.
the dull doorknobs that he served with didnt like that because he didn't believe in the same invisible sky daddy as they do.
Perfectly justifiable in devoted jebus lovers' eyes. /sarcasm
This is pretty disgusting. Imagine how many things like this happen where the family isn't so able, or willing, to push back so hard. Even if they do (like with this case) the end result is quietly tucked away and the purpose of the cover up has been served.
Massive massive respect to his family for how they've dealt with this and for never giving up. An added nod to his father who had the balls to tell an Army Colonel and the rest of the American military leadership "Fuck you and yours".
