Shaw needs a way to stream TVB over, ill gladly pay for it, given they corrent the timings differences.

I haven't watched Chinese TV for at least 10 years. Everything on those channels bores me now since they all look terrible. I used to watch that lawyer show (Yut Ho Wong Ting) and that cop show (uh...something...Ching Chup Dong On) and maybe even the one with the doctors but these days they're all sorta boring.

No HD is a dealbreaker too.

The CRTC wouldn't allow that to happen, nor would TVB want to make their channels available here in North America. They would lose alot of sales from rentals. Thus, Fairchild was created in Canada, and TVB USA in the states.

Highly unlikely, the only increase in channels I see would be in the mandarin-speaking market. As the migration of people from the canton region to Canada has reduced over the years.

Those were my favorite shows back in the day too. Most of the 90's stuff was awesome.

TVB in Hong Kong is HD, and they don't pay for basic television. That's TVB + 5 other channels. (At least that's what happened when I was a kid)

Correct me if I am wrong, the TVB HD feed in HK is free as well.

Shaw is migrating all multicultural channels from the 100s to the 500 range.

StylinRed
02-10-2011, 05:01 PM
yea

ch199 = 516 (LsTimes)
ch181 = 517 (Fairchild)
ch182 = 518 (Fairchild E)
ch183 = 519 (Phoenix)
ch180 = 520 (Talentvision)
and then 521-523 are new Taiwan (mandarin) stations

I'd like to see fairchild start an HD channel -_- it's sooo lame to see all these shows which i can download in HD in SD but Fairchild likely won't they have no need/drive to

創世紀 was one of the best tvb dramas imo.

all the 80's and 90's shows were waaay better (hell even some of the 70s shows are good if you can get past the fact its the 70s :) )

there's the odd gem for sure like EU

but most shows start out good or okay and end up completely retarded half way through like they just gave up

and they always end abruptly as hell instead of making 1 or 2 more episodes to make the ending coherent they just smash it all together on the final ep

What do you guys expect?

TVB has dominated/monopolized the Cantonese-speaking entertainment industry for decades in Hong Kong, enjoying prime time ratings, exclusive contracts with "unspoken clauses" with A-class entertainers (ie, if you film with ATV, TVB's main competitor in HK, you will never be able to work for TVB again, or bogus clauses like you cannot participate in interviews using cantonese with a non-TVB news media in HK), or in scenarios if you speak negatively about TVB, they will make sure you will not get an acting role in the industry.

With these types of assets and strangleholds, they don't need to innovate, and can continuously recycle the same plots and actors, and can still streamline a source of income.

Ever notice most of the tvb seies r in 20, 25 or 30 episodes? Ever notice that when a series airs on tv, it always starts on a monday and ends on a friday?
If they made that 1 extra episode, that means theyll need to make 4 extra episodes to round it out. On rare occasions do they have that odd episode, and even then they air it on a saturday to finish the series so the following monday they can start airing a new series.

still waiting for the day TVB buys out fairchild

wont happen, TVB controls 30% of fairchild Media, if TVB buys the rest, the CRTC will come down and they wouldn't be able to broadcast

Fairchild Media is one of the many holdings that the parent company owns
