Have you noticed lately on the latest facebook update. that the black frame crap is bothering you around the picture. Well here is the solution. just click any refresh button for page F5, press down on mouse scroll, etc on the photo and it will disappear. i believe it's R for mac but not sure because i don't own one. enjoy :)

Thankfully, I still haven't had any black frame ridiculousness around photos. I suppose it will be a matter of time.

Another solution is to open up the photo, close it navigate to another page, go in to history and then click on the link of the photo

Or you can copy the link and paste it in a new tab or page.. It's the fastest way. hate how you can't copy URL with the black frame

I hope they remove it for good because it's nothing more than a slight hassle. I don't know wtf they were thinking when they added this so-called "feature".

if you're on the new way, bottom left it says download in high reso, just right click that and copy link location

middle click, open in new tab, instead of left clicking... win.

(this works because the link itself isn't appended when viewing a thumb)

In the actual url when you open up a lightbox thing it'll have &theatre at the end

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?blablabalbala&theater

If you delete that and press enter it'll open up normally

If you don't like it, LET THEM KNOW. I did... told them it should at least be made optional. Said it's *kinda* neat on my desktop, but it really messes things up on my netbook's tiny screen.

another reason why the black frame is terrible is that you cannot right click and save the image so you can do something with them later

skip to 0:55 for a permanent script to disable the black box

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31FG9yONqVo

for after you install grease monkey on firefox.

just go directly to the link with chrome. no need for grease monkey

Not really, why do I need to block the rest of the screen to look at a single photo? Am I not capable of looking at the photo and everything else on the screen?

- Can't right-click/Copy URL or Save as...
- Have to close it before you can click anything else (Notifications/Home/Profile/etc.)
- Too big for my netbook screen
- Has no real benefit other than putting a pretty(?) frame around the pictures

In what ways is it better? Do be specific than "every way."

I just find it more convenient.. Looking at my wall, I'll see a photo thumb I might want to check out. So now I just click on it, and a window pops up temporarily, and I can scroll through the album or close it. Before, you'd have to either open a new tab for it, or have it take over your entire current window, having to either scroll back through all the pictures you've seen, or start all over again at the Facebook home page...

Basically it has nothing but positives, I don't understand the backlash other than "it's not what we're used to and that's bad". Which seems to be what happens every time they improve Facebook...

I think it might just be my screen (13") but liking and comment viewing was difficult for me with the theatre display

yeah i agree.. the only disadvantage of it is no saving photos and copy image url etc.
i love how when someone comments on a photo, i just click the notification and when im done viewing the comments, i click outside of the small blackbox window thing and continue where i was before i got the notification.
the only reason why i disabled it right now is just for the saving pics and copy image url :/

You can save images by hitting "download". That link is also the image url that you can copy and paste for the original quality/size image

This (http://www.facebook.com/fbphotozoom) is better. No clicking, no page changing, auto-sizing to your screen.

Edit: additional bonus: you can turn it on and off with a single click, a courtesy not afforded by the FB black frame.

Did you READ my post? Three negatives right there.

They could at least make it optional, because it's a major PITA on my netbook. :failed:

We're all very happy it works nicely for you on your 36" screen and blazingly-fast 16-core, 48GB RAM machine. It's doesn't work so well for everyone.

SkinnyPupp
02-27-2011, 10:47 PM
What's with the hostility?

Look, all I said was that I didn't understand the resistance to this. For all the negatives I've seen, there has been a simple solution. If you don't agree, fine. If you have a small screen, I can see it being a problem. But then if your screen is that small, I'm sure facebook isn't the only site you have problems with.

You were give numerous reasons why different people don't like it. What's with the dismissiveness? "It works fine for me and I like it, so any who doesn't must be stupid."

SkinnyPupp

I didn't say anything about anyone who disagrees with me. I just said I don't see their point. All the "reasons" given, I have counterpoints for all those arguments. So I still don't get it, sorry.

I think this is the only con about the new template (that effects me anyway).

More or less, the same to me. I don't like it, but I don't hate it either.
But the change does seem redundant anyhow.

I think it works well.

I hated it in the beginning, but if you give it a chance I think you'll get used to it and like?
