: Teksavvy and Monthly Usage

JesseBlue
02-12-2011, 11:07 AM
just want to let people know that they have bumped up their monthly usage from 200Gb to 300Gb...some are 500GB and some are unlimited...

http://teksavvy.com/en/res-internet.asp..you might have to change the province to BC...

wanna stick it to the CRTC? I think they do...

feeling generous?...use me as a referrer so i can get a $1 off my monthly bill! PM...if we do this right everyone can get a $1 off their monthly bill (or more) if we have some sort of plan...

Can you give us some reviews of teksavvy vs shaw? I am assuming tek is piggybacking off of shaw so tek's speed and ping should be identical?

we can get teksavvy here in vancouver?

underscore
02-12-2011, 09:01 PM
^ from what I gather, since they run off of Shaw's system, you can get them anywhere you can get Shaw?

i was with acanac before and had a year of great service but ... cause the second year price went way up so i chose to move on to another company -> teksavvy

i live in toronto tho ~ and they leech off rogers here but so far i've been very satisfied with their service

How often does teksavvy increase their rates?

JesseBlue
02-13-2011, 02:04 PM
haven't really seen them raise their rates...anyways...fromwhat i know, they only lease from house to CO (Shaw/Telus)...

woob
02-13-2011, 02:08 PM
Even if TekSavvy does raise their rates a little, they are still much cheaper than Shaw.

Shaw Extreme: 15 down/1 up, 100GB cap - $57
TekSavvy Pro: 15 down/1 up, 300GB cap - $37

so any teksavvy users former shaw users?
for teksavvy cable, pretty much identical reliability?
for some reason i heard people saying stuff like steaming is poor and upload throughputs are weaker

mk1freak

i might just go to tek, their packages are looking good (cable unlimited) plus no contracts = win

JesseBlue

i'm still waiting for their reply to my inquiry...i have teksavvy dry dsl...costing me 47 after taxes...3M/1M profile...if i get the 15M/1M, i should be paying $44...if i get the 7.5M/512K its $34...choices choices!...

so anyone knows how teksavvy cable service is? is it worth the trouble?

JesseBlue
02-20-2011, 12:29 PM
i just signed up for the cable service...i'll see it in about a week...

for me, it just makes sense...for faster speed, i'll pay less...who wouldn't want that...

JesseBlue, any updates on teksavvy?

JesseBlue
03-01-2011, 09:18 PM
not yet...they were suppose to put it in last friday...instead when i double checked, they misplaced my mac address and SN for my modem which i forwarded them their own email showing the mac id and SN...so i'm still playing the waiting game...
i'm certain that it will just be better for me to go from the dry dsl to this...i mean my boxee box is just going to respond better :)

a friend had kinda same problem. ex-shaw customer, signed up on the phone and scheduled the start day 10 days after. no technicial came cuz he had his setup and modem from shaw. shaw cuts off on day 10. he waited almost 1 week still no internet from teksavvy. so he went back to shaw. go figure.

Keep us updated please.

My promo price with shaw is coming to a close.

I've been on $10 for extreme highspeed, and I'd hate to have to go back to regular.

officially switched from teksavvy to shaw feb 18th......

discontinued our service to shaw the week before, feb 10th.. we asked them how would the transition work and how long it will take, TS said it would only take 3 days the most.. there is no need for a technician to come over and the transition would be seemless.... so had no internet for a good week

i called up teksavvy after 4 days and they said Shaw actually shut off the "line" thats connecting our house to their infustructure.. .. i think its a ploy by Shaw to turn off people into switching to these small ISP.. i tried to call Shaw and they just keep telling me to wait because they have to "reset" their connections

well i've been told that they have been in constant communication but its nearing a month since i ordered back in the 17th of Feb...so i'm surprised about unit's info...grr...no offense to you unit but this is disappointing

unit
03-10-2011, 09:58 PM
well i ordered it 9 days ago and they're coming tomorrow.
and i didnt switch from shaw, i moved to a new place and so im not replacing a service if that matters.

imp>dom
03-10-2011, 11:49 PM
my guess is... you know what it is. teksavvy runs on shaw's backbone so

JesseBlue
03-11-2011, 05:40 PM
i'm already on teksavvy dsl and just wanted to switch to the cable...so i'm already a teksavvy customer...

what i'm thinking is that since i'm not pressuring anyone, they'll put me in the backburner...i'll email them daily..lol...

imp>dom
03-12-2011, 10:20 AM
how is their dsl service?

JesseBlue
03-12-2011, 12:50 PM
i guess its fine and fairly reliable but i only have the 3/1 dry loop...in this case they are using the telus infrastructure...

there are times that i see that it stops giving me a signal (by looking at the router) but this is probably once in a blue moon and lasts for a few seconds...

JesseBlue
03-12-2011, 12:51 PM

did they install it yet?

unit
03-14-2011, 07:39 PM
the update is, they didnt come so i called and they said they moved the date.
i asked why they didnt inform me and they said they did.
i checked my email and all i got was an order confirmation email, and after sifting through the email i found the install date was changed to 3/15/2011.
i wrote them a complaint letter telling them they should find better ways to communicate important information to their clients.

at least call me or send me a separate email that has "date changed" in the subject...

so they're supposed to come tomorrow. if they dont for whatever reason, im cancelling.

JesseBlue
03-15-2011, 03:33 PM
i got a 'confirmation' (whatever that means) for tomorrow. let's see.

unit
03-15-2011, 04:06 PM
i 'confirmed' yesterday and nobody came or called today

how much you paying?

thinking of getting the 15/1 profile, but the 7.5 looks decent enough......

you doing any gaming? can you tell me the avg latency say for COD or wow?

thanks!

here's what i'm getting for the night time...i just got the $29...i don't do gaming unfortunately so i can't comment on the latency...

on my old dsl..i used to get 2.9 Mb/s dl and around 0.5 ul...so for a lower price..i think its worth it..:D

unit
03-17-2011, 09:02 AM
sooo my installation got rescheduled till next tuesday.
this is their 3rd attempt to send a technician. i think anyone else would have just cancelled by now.
they gave me a free 2 weeks credit but im still pissed

JesseBlue
03-17-2011, 03:51 PM
c'mon...a 1.5 week additional wait...look at me...it took a month...but once you're there, you'll be happy as a clam.. like me!

unit
03-17-2011, 04:27 PM
reason im pissed is because they didnt come twice and never even bothered to call me about it! expected a bit more customer service from a smaller company..

JesseBlue
03-17-2011, 05:02 PM
you should remember that the people coming to your location works for shaw or a contractor for shaw (i wish i'm one of them!)...its them that at times chooses not to go for whatever reason and possibly doesn't tell shaw who in then doesn't tell teksavvy...
this is more true since i don't think teksavvy has offices here in vancity

imp>dom
03-18-2011, 08:53 AM
hmmm at least now we know we can start by using their dsl service first then switch to cable later on

JesseBlue
03-18-2011, 02:25 PM
yep..follow my footsteps..but then again, if i had a phone line, i would get the 6/1 profile for the price i'm paying with dry dsl

JesseBlue
03-21-2011, 07:13 PM
got your connection yet, unit?

unit
03-24-2011, 08:04 AM
yeah got it.
its not bad but i think i preferred shaw
teksavvy is faster on speedtest but actual throughput shaw comes out on top for me.
also im not certain but when i use ps3 media center via wireless it drops the connection more often than it did on shaw. i would normally assume its a router problem but its happening regularly

So i called them today as my situation is quite unique at home. We have both shaw and telus. I have the shaw account because my siblings hog the internet like a mofo and they have their seperate telus. So tech savvy said we need to disconnect our telus lines before they can come and put their system. They also said they need 7 days of disconnection. Is that true?

JesseBlue
04-05-2011, 04:10 PM
possibly...are you looking into the teksavvy dsl? how about looking at the teksavvy cable...you might not need any downtime for the telus side as it should be separate

I told them I want the cable not the dsl so i dont know why she would tell me there would be downtime. Maybe because i have already have shaw in our basement?

JesseBlue
04-06-2011, 05:04 PM
usually it should be pretty seamless. The downtime is perhaps taking the infomation off from shaw to put it back into shaw/teksavvy...its stupid but it shouldn't be much of an issue seeing you have telus to fall back on for a few days/week if that happens
