I need to transfer a lot of big ass files into External drive.
Mostly, 25~50gb per folder.


I m thinking of USB 3.0

Couple Questions I have here,
1. Does USB 3.0 use the same Cable as USB 2.0 ??
2. Is it sable so far ? (cuz USB 3.0 came out not even a year yet.)

Do you have a mother board that supports usb 3.0? You need that and a new cable to achieve those higher speeds.

The beauty of USB 3.0 is its backward compatibility with USB 2.0; you need a new cable and new host adapter (or, one of the Asus or Gigabyte motherboards that supports USB 3.0) to achieve USB 3.0, but you can still use the device on a USB 2.0 port and achieve typical USB 2.0 performance. In reducing some overhead requirements of USB (now, the interface only transmits data to the link and device that need it, so devices can go into low power state when not needed), the new incarnation now uses one-third the power of USB 2.0.

They exist.

If you're running a USB3.0 setup, you should get faster speeds than a USB2.0 setup because the bottleneck is the USB2.0 interface, not the hard drive's ability to read/write data.

That's why eSATA is also better than USB2.0.

that said - 7200 drives will have a faster access time than 5400 drives - so I think you will see a difference should you be transferring a lot of small files. But if you're transferring one LARGE file, then you won't see a difference between the two.
