i searched this forum but didnt really find what i was looking for sorry if this is a repost

i have a wired internet connection (PC) with shaw and i want to go wireless, if i already have a wireless router am i able to switch it, meaning i just hook up the cables to the wireless router or do i have to call shaw and change up a few things for it to be wireless ? The wireless router is a dlink one along with some blue modem that connects to the dlink (i am getting this from a friend who previously had this wireless router also with shaw)

any advice, explanations are appreciated thanks :)

Does your PC have a wireless card?do you see like an antenna at the back of your PC?Should look something like thishttp://img.ncix.com/gif/21731.jpg

or do you have a usb wireless adapter?like this one

Your PC needs one of those to access wireless network. Unless you have a laptop which most laptops already have one built in.

if you have an actual router (example, the linksys wrt54g) then just plug the ethernet cable from the shaw modem, into the router, and set up the wireless (passwords, ssid) and you're good to go

+1 like he said.. your PC needs a device to read wi-fi signals..
if you go witha USB style, get the one which has a cradle so you can extend it away from the PC unit itself and place it near a window for best results.
The PCI(e) style is the best if you dont mind opening your unit and installing it.

In addition to what the others have said, you don't need to make any changes with Shaw.
