The loonie hit 1.03 the highest it's been in 4 years... more frightening, the economists are saying we could hit 1.09 US In the coming months.

Yeah for those of us who import but not so good for the country in general.

Gold.......... damn. I wish I had purchased it when it was low, low, low.......... A coworker knew this decades ago and started buying it up. He never traveled, went to movies, or went out for dinner. He survived on ramen noodles and tea. Holy shit. 30 years later, he is damn rich. He plans to keep holding onto the gold - probably till he dies. He's single with no kids, too. I want to be his son. He's probably in his 70's now.

I know money isn't everything, but.................... jelly.

your post is nothing but fail.

gave up everything we would consider a life to SAVE his precious gold.

he's about 70 and hasn't done shit for 30 years? LOL that's pathetic. even if he's literally worth $40million right now. what good is that when you've wasted THE BEST YEARS OF YOUR LIFE. living like a college student. that's so fucking hilariously sad. it's sad you think that's admirable.

this guy literally scrooged himself out of his own life.

tea and ramen. no vacations. no movies.

it's so much fail because he could have easily upgraded his life without bankrupting his savings. an occasional vacation. there's just no excuse for it. this guy has a mental problem obviously and should be featured on hoarders or some such show.

Thanks for explaining the whole point of my thread....... I think he's a bit of a retard. Money is nothing if you cannot enjoy life. I am ten thousand times richer than he is. I have a wonderful family. Stuff gold can never buy....... still I'm jelly. Money = root of all evil. Still need it.

hey, i have a noob question. i dont buy stuff online very often, but i am planning on ordering an exhaust from the states.

when ordering from the states, do they use the most current exchange rates for converting usd? or do they have a "Set" exchange fee or something similar? (in other words, will it be better to buy this exhaust now? or will it not make a difference at all?)

and a random story:

my grandfather used to buy chunks of gold every few months back in taiwan. (the gold were shaped like dumplings/"yuan bao".) chinese people here will probably know the story of why dumplings are shaped the way they are ;D

i kinda wanted to do that too, but realized im not rich enough to start that kind of investment ;[

^then do it with silver; at ~30/oz, it's affordable compared to ~1400/oz

Where are you buying the exhaust from and with what means?
If you are paying by CC, then the banks will charge what ever the current rate is plus whatever their markup is.

So you can buy it now, or wait and hope that the cdn goes even higher.

But in the grand scheme of things, the exchange rate is pretty good right now, and even if the dollar does go up another pt, you really won't be saving THAT much money.
For example, if it is 1.01 exchange rate for a $500 usd exhaust is only $495.05 cdn.
A 1.02 exchange rate is $490.20 cdn, assuming it jumps 1 pt.

I think our dollar is going to go even higher. Or more accurately, I think the American Dollar will sink even lower.

I've even seen some economists go do far as talking about currency collapse or long term devaluation of American Currency. I'm not sure 'investing' in American currency is a good long term strategy at the moment. But hey - FANTASTIC time to book a vacation.

Why Goods Are More Expensive In Canada

Even if cheaper imports tied to the U.S. dollar could have a direct impact on consumer prices in Canada, there are many other factors influencing price differences between Canadian and American store shelves.

Higher labour costs in Canada
Higher Canadian taxes
Import tariffs (Canadian book importation regulations under the Canadian Copyright Act allow American publishers to tack a 10 per cent mark-up on top of the U.S. price of a book sold in Canada)
Higher freight costs (The population of Canada is about the same as California but its geographical area is roughly that of the continental U.S.)
Bilingual labeling requirements
The time and cost to update price listings and catalogues
Import contracts are often signed weeks or months ahead of the product’s arrival on store shelves.
Another factor is the tendency for retailers and wholesalers to simply absorb profits or losses due to changes in the exchange rate. For this reason, the fact that cheaper consumer goods are arriving from the United States or China does not mean their price will automatically fall for Canadian shoppers.

Doesn't explain why my 99cent menu is really 1.29! :fuuuuu:

Title fail

New would imply if has never reached 1.03 level before, but as mentioned, it's just a 4 year high.
