...
i don't understand the fascination with this house in the media recently... seems like some realtor is using connections to advertise his listing
the house is listed at 10.5m BC taxes it @ a 12m price point
as for aesthetics... its all based on pov but to me its ugly (on the outside) looks nice on the inside though (not)

i'd slow down to look at this house every time on my way to school. the inside looks too old though.

I'm sure they spent a decorator a lot of money to design the interior. I'm also sure that most of the materials are imported and expenseive as hell. Saying that the interior is totally fugly IMO. It's not my taste at all, if I had that much money I'd be looking elsewhere.

The 20,782-square-foot home was built in 1932 for George Reifel, a liquor magnate and rum runner during Prohibition who opened the Commodore Ballroom around the same time.
thats awesome

Holy crap, i've been in this house, I was here for a UBC formal event. The house was sickkk. Their games room was so awesome and their theatre room won a prize for best theatre room in Vancouver. Also, all the gold you see is actual gold lined throughout the house. There was also a hidden door in the wall that lead to a secret washroom. It was an amazing house. I think the best part of the house was the kitchen, it was incredible, an open concept with huge doors that lead to the backyard/pool. It was a brown family that owned the house, I don't recall what the father did though.
I had no idea it was 15million.

If I won the Lottery, I'd buy it and turn it into a Bed & Breakfast/ Fancy Restaurant & Ballroom/Lounge.
Think of the Revenue you could pull in from it.

meh....the interior looks like only someone in their 60s+ would like...
also kinda reminds me of houses a mexican drug lord would live in...
The house in the 2nd link looks wayyyy too formal with their "royalish" paint and decorations...
Even if I have the money, I can't imagine myself living in either one of these houses....i rather live a small condo with nice clean contemporary furnishing and design....and for 1/10th of the price compare to these houses

I'm just curious, have you ever lived in a condo?
I currently live in a condo, 650sq/ft and I can not imagine living here for the rest of my life. I have enough space, but I can't see myself living here for the next 20-30years.
Obviously this is ymmv, but whenever I go home to my parents house I LOVE the space. Just space to walk around or walk up stairs etc.

Haha....i actually do live in a 700sqft condo (half the time)
space is limited, but for a single guy or a young couple, it is more than enough (fewer space, fewer junks, fewer maintenance, fewer expenses)
I am sure things would be very different once you start a family and have children tho
On my previous post I was more referring to a $1-2 million, 1500sqft+ condo (instead of a 700sqft)

I remember running around that house a bunch when I was a kid. My dad was in charge of a reno or something for the house when his boss bought it, or something like that, so I got to go check it out. Place was HUGE.

Or someone in their 20s who grew up in a place where there was real wood, real marble, and real granite everywhere, not this fake shit you see in expensive houses here in Vancouver.
Very nice house. If I had some 10mil lying around for a house, I'd seriously, seriously consider it.

You know you're living HK too long when 10mil to me (obviously I can't afford it) is an extremely good deal.

Casi Mia needs some serious reno's.
Although its still a beautiful house, the outside needs some work, and the toilets/sinks/furniture need serious work.
I wonder if the kitchen is as dated

It must be HAUNTED, its so old and the previous owners had died. I wouldnt wanna spend 1 night in there alone.

I agree, single or a couple would be fine I guess.
I'm more of a backyard kind of guy though. But, when I start my family there is no way I can afford a house in Vancouver... I'll probably have to go to a cheaper district in burnaby or richmond (Not that those prices are that much cheaper either)

Anyhow, updating the house (ghosts or not) would be a double-edged sword. It is in need of obvious updating but doing so would almost be tragic as there was incredible thought put into the interior that its almost a shame to remove it all.
Its kind of like the Playboy Mansion. We've all see the pictures of the interior but I've read time and again that the place is beginning to fall apart from the inside. While I have no doubt it was absolutely gorgeous in it's day but has passed it's prime. To renovate it now will be viewed as some as inappropriate as its so iconic (as is Casa Mia, apparently).
Granted, if I win the Lotto Max this Friday I fully intend to buy Casa Mia and renovate it to my taste.

I'd rather put my money towards house #5 (if I had the money) because the interior is sweet and doesn't look like it's haunte by ghosts from the 1930's :fullofwin:

I think just some fresh paint in some spots would be fine.
Just image that washroom with a white ceiling, the marble could stay just the way it was.
Even if it's poo colored.
