$500 roaming bill cut down to $100...Fido FTW!

So last week I had to make a weekend trip to London for our family business. I knew about the crazy expensive roaming charges for data when you're overseas so I made sure I turned off my data on my iphone before I landed in London. Anyways, long story short my little nephew had my phone and he got into my setting and turned my data on. I turned it off right away, within minutes but I guess my open pages loaded up with out me knowing. So when I got back to Vancouver, I checked my online statement and it showed that I used 23mb's which came out to around $500!
I called Fido today and basically told them what happen and I said "I don't expect to have my entire charges dismissed because I guess I am at fault but if you can give me some sort of discount that would be great". After getting an lecture about "you should know better about international roaming" the CR put me on hold, came back a few minutes later and said "you'll only have to pay $100 + taxes". Basically what he did was he went into the system and added the international data package which is 25mb's for $100. He said my billing cycle ended and he had to go back and add the package, really didn't get what he was saying but he said you'll only have to pay $100. I must say I was expecting maybe a $50 discount or something but for Fido to remove the $400 was awesome and it's no wonder why I've been with them for almost years. :)

Lol, well at first the CSR was really up tight and a bit rude plus he had a heavy french accent so I couldn't understand half the things he was saying to me but I remained cool, agreed with him that I should have known better and gave him the "but I've been a long time Fido customer so I just wanted to call and see if anything could be done to lower the amount" and I guess that worked because he ended up lowering it.

treat CSR's nicely. their job is taking shit from people all day, so when they get a nice customer, they get generous.

Wait so the package is now on your plan and you have to remove it down the road?

Ya so instead of $500 in fees, you are signed up to a $100 extra per month contract for 2 years? :troll:

It's a 1 time data package add-on. As in you add this package if you're gonna go travelling. It's not recurring.

This is not that rare of an occurrence... I think it's pretty common for CSR's to retroactively add a value pack that can reduce your previous month's costs.
But 23MB to load up a few pages? I don't know about that one... must have been some heavy images.

Just to play devils advocate I call bullshit on your nephew "accidentally" going into your iPhones settings and activating your Data. :troll:

Kids are kinda smart now.
Surprisingly so.
Little newphew could be like 5-7, old enough that if you give them a phone to fiddle with, they'll shut up.
At that age, my brother was surfing, touch typing and watching youtube.
Fido waived a $600 bill of mine...
i was in the interior for the winter two years back, and had another number added to my line so I'd have a local number there.
Long story short, where I lived and where I worked were in two separate zones... and I did all my calling from work - not home.

I had them take away a $800+ data bill once....this was a long time ago.....they offered a service where they could actually lock ur sim from accessing data which they did for me
however my accidental pocket dial phone call when I was in vegas once cost me $145.xx that was not taken away.....
they only are nice once FYI....so try not screw up again

Yup, it's a one time package.
Well, I had some PDF files opened via my hotmail so I guess they loaded up.

I had a friend who had her bill come out to $1000+ but got her dad to argue with the CSR and eventually the whole thing was waived by saying it was his daughters birthday.
As for myself on the other hand, I keep getting pwned by them.
