Of course Chara knew what he was doing. hes a guy thats played in the BELL CENTRE too many times. most of his career is spent in the same division. The picture/still frame doesnt help his cause either. Regardless, the NHL has made its point. We can debate all we want
The play was a "good hockey play", albeit interference. But when you have a 250lbs Chara thats almost 7ft on skates hitting MaxPac crouched over probably ready to get back to the bench, well, things dont look too good. MaxPac in that motion is probably around 6ft tall when Chara got him

If that's a known danger zone, why isn't that thing padded by now?
If that's a known danger zone, why isn't that thing padded by now?
At that velocity, padding won't help any. His head is still going from "X" mph to zero in an instant. Your brain is still going to hit that skull hard. The only way to mitigate damage is if the "X" mph variable is slow; but it rarely is @ the NHL level.
It seriously is just the nature of hockey. It's a high speed contact sport. Everytime one finds themselves in a situation where one is going full bore to a sudden halt is going to get hurt. Whether it's a glass stanchion, the board itself, metal post, bench door, or another player, this is just going to happen again.

@2:03 you can see it is padded with Red covers.

maybe angled glass or an angled column would be better?
like a lot of the boarding hits, it's just the position. Unfortunate.
Surprisingly he'll be okay and it wasn't a career ending injury.

NHL will take hits like this more seriously when they feel a decrease on their bottom line.
Did you guys hear that Air Canada is threatening to withdraw their sponsorship?? Even the PM is talking about it..
Garry Bettman / Colin Campbell need to go!!

Did you hear what Bettman said? He said he could fill Air Canada's spot no problem. I hate Bettman. He's such a douche bag.
How does one become commissioner anyways?

Ya, but Air Canada is pretty big.. Unless they get a sponorship from american airlines or delta airlines. I can see it hurting..
To become NHL Commissioner I think you get voted in much like a presidency. But it does say in wiki that Bettman was hired in 93.

Bettman is an idiot tho, dont piss off one of your lead sponsors that make road games possible

As much as everybody hates Bettman, the NHL/Hockey is getting alot more traffic and viewers.
How many people watched Hockey Pre/Post Bettman?
Exactly. As much as I hate the guy, he's gotten a bigger fanbase for Hockey, which is pretty cool.

It shouldn't have even been a 5 minute penalty.

On a side note, it's very surprising that bettman got a 5 year extension. Considering the whole phoenix ordeal didn't do him much good by putting all the owners on the hook for the coyotes. And the whole southern us expansion especially teams like atl and florida's a pretty big fail as well and then he brings in profit sharing to lure owners into buying those teams.

There was nothing wrong with that hit, other than maybe it should have been interference. Unfortunate timing is all. Why in the fuck is there glass right there in the first place. Its not needed. Getting hit into the rdge of the glass like that has been happening for years, at all levels of hockey.
As for bettman, good for him. Air Canada can get fucked, who do they think they are?? Trying to side with their politican friends so that they can flew their nuts and influance the NHL?

It would be a good thing if Air Canada stop sponsoring the NHL. They could use all that money to find a way to not lose luggage.
