So I just bought a new multifunction printer and everytime i use it, my room light flickers.

Is there anything i can do to not make it flicker when the scanner is in use? Is there an adapter i can buy or other suggestions?

For all that matters, laptop/stereo/printer are all plugged into one surge protector and the 2nd wall outlet is used by a portable heater. The other nearest wall outlet is about 5-6ft away.

all my printers i've used in the past dim my lights when used, but they don't cause seizure inducing flickering though.

If it dims slightly it is normal. make sure you arent plugging in too many in one outlet

if the heater is on at the same time when everything else is pulled in, maybe try moving the heater to a different outlet.

I'm using 3, 7 outlet, power bars in my room plus about 4 wall receptacles and everything's full... Nothing flickers or dims in my room.

heater is not on when printer is in use.

I have a multifunctional printer. The first time I used it my lights flickered, but I didn't think anything of it.
Then boom all of the power in my room went off and I had to turn it back on from the electric panel. Now every time I have to print something I have to turn off my lights first.

Laser printers suck up a few hundred watts, if it's a light flickering then it's normal.

same thing here. Samsung laser. Doesn't exactly flicker, but you can see it kind dims the light now and when if it's running.

you can get a surge protector, it should help , after i plugged mine into a surge protector, my lights don't flicker anymore

no flickers at all. My setup is like this: everything computer related on a surge protector, then the lights in one outlet, the printer in another outlet.

I don't care if it fries in a power spike...It's been over 10 years it has done its deed

This is tied into a single circuit in my room.

- Vacuum Cleaner
- PC w/ Core i7, radeon 6950
- 2x 24" monitors
- alarm clock
- cell phone charger
- pc speakers w/ sub
- portable heater
- modem
- router

Much of that is plugged into an APC uninterruptibile power supply.

I suggest you pick on up to solve your flicker issues.

a surge protector won't help anything

You are drawing too much amp from one circuit, go to your electrical panel and figure out which outlet belongs to each circuit
(sometimes you will have 2 outlets in the same room that belongs to different circuit, or 2 outlets in different rooms that belong to the same circuit)

Spread out your electrical draws (i.e. don't put all your heater/AC, PC, printer, etc on the same circuit)


FYI
A heaters uses 300-2000w
A high-end PC uses 300-500w
A 23" LCD uses 15-50w
A typical light bulb uses 13-60w
A printer uses 200-600w
