: iPhone 4 - Apple Warranty from Telus?

Was wondering if it was mandatory to purchase the Apple Warranty with an iPhone 4?
I ask this because I went to the Richmond Center TELUS Connect Store and was denied the purchase of the phone without purchasing the $75.00 Apple warranty. Questioned the sales rep/communication consultant of this warranty and was told it was store policy to sell iphone 4 with the warranty. Find it puzzling how one could not purchase the phones without one...

Is this a cash grab? Or was the rep being deceiving?

It's a cash grab and deceiving.

You don't HAVE to buy it. But Apple does 100% of their own warranty work and will not allow their dealers to handle it. If you buy an iphone from Telus and then it bunks out after the DOA period (iirc it's 30 days) then you're SOL without the warranty (because Telus won't reimburse the dealer for any replacements or repairs because Apple won't reimburse them). This often creates HUGE problems for the selling dealer if people declined the warranty but come back with problems on their phone later and is likely the cause of the Connect policy. I do know other dealers who have a similar policy as well.

This is the way APPLE has set it up, not the dealers as dealers make absolutely nothing on Apple warranties (they cost the dealer $75 to sell and they sell them for $75).

The way the cell phone industry works is a lot more convoluted than most people imagine.

Don't get it. It's a waste of money. You have 1 year warranty with Apple anyways. Just book an appointment with the Genius bar if you need service. Also you can always buy Applecare anytime before your 1 year expires.

My friend's iphone digitizer died 7months in. So he just went to the genius bar and they fixed it on the spot.
