45 bucks
It would of taken less time to look up the aircare website for the cost

EDIT 2: Did the knock sensor trip the CEL?

is your car OBDI or II, is there a CEL? if you answered yes, you will fail. in all likely hood if they see the CEL they wont even test you i think.

Your car is OBDII
With the CEL on, it's an automatic fail.

disconnect battery prior to entering aircare..
reconnect after 30 seconds..
problem? :troll:

Problem? Yes.
U do know all of the sensors and stuff needs to be in ready status before getting scanned right? So pulling the battery will not work cause some sensor requires XXX KMs to become working.

3. If the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is on, the test system will download and record the faults stored by the vehicle's OBD system. This information will be printed on your Vehicle Inspection Report and the vehicle will receive a fail result.

Further proof that retards work at Aircare. On that note, I've always been told OB1 is fine with a CEL and that it's OBD2 that they won't bother with.

Since OBD1 is dyno tested, CEL won't pass. With a CEL on, your car will be running rich and should be blowing out black smoke. CEL is like a safe mode for cars; it's tuned to dump extra fuel to prevent further damages related with the parts' failure.

Yet, I've had a CEL for the past few months and my gas mileage is still the same and there's no "black" smoke....
I can show you my aircare sheet, was done a couple weeks ago.

should i go repair first or aircare with CEL on? the knock sensor doesnt give me black smoke or anything either just kills my gas i think. i only get 300-400kms off my accord. it used to be more

Although no visible smoke, it should be running rich. Maybe your car was running rich within legal limit? I don't know. :fullofwin:

Sucks a lot of gas because the ECU is tuned to dump more fuel. If you smell your exhaust gas with CEL at an operating temperature, it will have a distinct strong "fuel" smell which wasn't there before with CEL off. No visible smoke because it's not tuned to dump as much fuel as other cars with CEL.

No clue and that's what i'm assuming. Except my mileage hasn't changed from before and after it. I'm probably going to change my o2 sensor though, cuz that's the solution to ALL cel's hahaha.

your car WILL FAIL (or get rejected, whichever) with the CEL on. a knock sensor retards the timing when, you guessed it, the engine knocks. knocking could be caused by lots of things, such as excessively high combustion temps. excessively high combustion temps = high NOX. they'll fail a car even if it's throwing a transmission code like a faulty speed sensor etc.. i've brought so many cars to aircare, even resetting it by disconnecting the battery or clearing the code with a scanner sometimes doesn't work, the readiness codes won't be set and you'll get rejected. anything pre OBD II can still pass even with the CEL on since they use the sniffer. and a bad knock sensor on a V6 honda? seriously, almost everytime i've seen that it was because a rat chewed the wire. not kidding!

i have no idea how the knock sensor became faulty. could be rats too but i dont see anything chewed up. pre OBD II? i should just go fix knock sensor tmrw then? how long does it usually take, i know intake manifold has to be removed and some coil, i forgot. only have 1 day permit to do everything! btw is it usually a huge amount of fuel that is burning rich when knock sensor is faulty? iuno if its just me but the v6 used to seem like it was able to go further with less gas. now on a full tank i can only go to vancouver and back to surrey 2 times. some days i gotta fill up twice!

what kind of car is it? if you want to cheap it out and you can find the harness to the knock sensor, you could try to relocate the knock sensor to an area that is easier to get to, hopefully you will be lucky and wont have to reset the MIL after the repairs and can just go to aircare once the repair is done
the knock sensor could cause poor fuel economy because it adjusts the timing, retarded timing means you gotta put your foot into the pedal more to get the car moving

this is not true, if your CEL is on because of a random misfire, it would not cause the car to run rich or if you have an EVAP code, the only time it will run rich and have black smoke out the tailpipe is if the o2 sensor has failed and doesnt give the computer a voltage, then it will run rich or lean depending

its a 04 accord coupe v6. whats the MIL for? how would i know if i need to reset it? is it the CEL? i have the manual to repair the knock sensor myself but i dont know how much torque i need to retorque the bolts for intake manifold
