OK, here's the deal.. i sync my iphone/ipad with my main PC and
have transferred pretty much all my apps onto the PC. I dont
listen to music on my iphone/ipad so have not synced any.

just photos and apps.

Well..BAM.. my PC gets hit with a trojan.. i'm going to attempt to
clean it with some sort of registry cleanup script BUT if that fails,
I may have to re-format.

SOooo.. what happens when i re-install a fresh itunes after formatting?
will itunes erase all my apps when i sync back?

*iphone/ipad are not jailbroken running ios 4.3

Backup your music and stuff. Important to deauthourize your old account before you reformat.

sycning back to a different computer means all your music will be wiped out, provided that you choose not to sync apps yet

once you click sync apps, it will most likely erase all your apps because you are syncing it to the reformatted computer with no apps

that was my experience with iphone, so because of that i have not synced the apps
hope that helps, correct me if i am wrong

you'll have to use a third party program to get everything copied off of your device to your pc. #1 problem with i* stuff IMO

just click transfer purchases before you sync, itunes will copy all your apps on the phone back to the computer first

thats what happened to me....
i reformatted my comp:
- transferred the apps back into Itunes
- looks like i have to sync all my songs again....cause i can't transfer the playlist from iphones to itunes.... =.=

update:

so i nuked the trojan (fake Win7 anti-virus 2011) with a fixreg script so i didn't have
to format.

However.. i did 'authorize' my work laptop and as a backup, transferred all my apps
over to it. so in the event that my PC gets hit again with something more severe,
i've got another source to restore my apps from.

Thanks for everyones input.. quite valuable and time-saving info!!!
