Sporty 4 doors?
1990TSI
03-31-2011, 10:14 PM
A crazy friend of mine knocked up his lady friend and has to get rid of his awesome RWD 2 door sports coupe(s) and can't find anything sporty with 4 doors for under $5k
except the B15 Sentra SE-R, which is awesome
anything I've missed? spending limit is around $5k, not needed until later this year, but has to be 4 door and unfortunatley not RWD :(
any suggestions?
also, must be 5/6 speed manual, unless it's an SUV, which for whatever reason they're also considering

What's he ditching and for how much?

well he's got an S13 and a gen coupe like mine, probably only gonna get rid of one though. he's upside down on the Genesis and the 240 isn't worth selling, so it's tricky. probably just looking for a 3rd car with 4 doors realistically, but the S13 would be $1k

wrx too $$$, and no VWs or anything european, don't want the baby to catch fire from being in a vehicle.
older Impreza sounds good, how are the 4 door integras? never owned a honda, but seen a lot of love given to the 2 doors.

JDM is great, she would love a skyline, but the aristo AWD is pretty hard to come by in 5 speed ;)

used to own a 4 door integra,
enough room in the back to knock her up a second time... with the baby watching
only complaints were from my friends trying to get in the back who would hit their heads against the c-pillar

Around 5k could get you a 5th gen Accord. Plenty of space + pretty reliable.

+1 for mazda 3, lol @ accord and EL when OP asks for a sporty 4 door...
I'd still go with a MK4 jetta or B5 passat, regardless of OP thinking they will catch fire because it's european... they are very nice to drive

2002 Infiniti G20t!
Can't go wrong with a SR20DE + Manual + QX4 low-fatigue seats :)

And the G20t is roomier than an EL, Impreza and Integra sedan.

OR possibly a 1999 Legacy GT sedan... (This used to be my favorite car in highschool)

Maximas were once marketed as "4 door sports cars".
Dunno if that really holds true, but I like them more than some camrys and accords

I am looking for pretty much the exact same car... E36 BMW's are on my radar. Edit: nvm no RWD.
Is the B15 SER actaully any good? I remember reviews in the past were mediocre.
I was really liking the Infiniti G20, but I read the cupholders were terrible.

as a mk4 jetta owner, i wouldn't recommend for your friend.
sporty, MEH.
and the rear leg room and seating position is just terrible.
+1 for legacy gt

Aside from the Impreza/Legacy idea, he could always go with an older model Honda Accord and drop an H22 once the baby is here and he's settled. That would be a fun combo, with Honda's legendary reliability.
Even better than the Impreza/Legacy/Accord idea though, is a late 90's Forester. They're lego, can fit WRX/STi drivelines, are AWD with good ground clearance, and have a shit-ton of room for his, hers, and baby's gear. Trust me, a wagon is worth it's weight in gold to a family.
You don't think I bought a minivan because I wanted to, did you?

^I had a 1998 SE with an A/T (I couldn't find an M/T). The leather used on the seats are very high quality (much better than any of the current infiniti and acura cow-hide), and it rides very quiet. The engine roars to life, even though the car is pretty old.
Handling wise, it's not very 'sporty' at all, but it rides very nice on the highways.
Gas mileage is pretty mediocre, and it 'recomends' premium gas.

The Maximas are the absolute antithesis of sporty they handle like a shopping cart.
+1 for the G20 if you can live with the small backseat otherwise you can't go wrong with the Legacy/Forrester.

I had a G20, it wasn't the fastest car but it was fun to drive the back seats were roomy and leather + heated seats is a nice option. Def recommend if you can find one. Mine had 220k and the sr20 still ran like a champ
